We were getting ready to pack up and go home after get off work when the emergency department called and said there was an emergency orthopedic surgery. When we heard this, none of us were particularly surprised at first. This is because orthopedic emergencies are nothing more than broken arms and legs, which can usually be solved with nerve blocks or spinal anesthesia. The doctors on duty are fully capable of handling such low-difficulty surgeries. However, orthopedics places special emphasis on blood preparation in preparation for major surgery. When we heard about blood preparation, we all realized that it might not be that simple: either the patient needed a blood transfusion in time because of hemorrhagic shock, or there was a possibility of massive blood loss during the operation. In short, no matter which one it was, we could not stand idly by, and the Department of Anesthesiology was always a whole. After urgently understanding the situation, we learned that the patient actually needed an amputation surgery! Combined with the information of "car accident", a bloody picture immediately appears in our minds. If the injury is not particularly serious, amputation is generally not performed. When I rushed back into the operating room, the patient had already entered the operating room. The deformed thigh made it obvious that she had a broken bone. The pain had distorted her expression. The orthopedic doctor immediately explained: It was a fracture, it was a tumor, and a high amputation was required. At this point, we were still a little confused. So I pulled the orthopedic doctor out the door and asked quietly: Wasn't it a car accident injury? When I asked him this, he showed a strange expression and said: What car accident? It was just a fraud. As a result, she accidentally fractured her leg due to the tumor. Looking back at her painful face, I felt a little hateful for a moment. However, my inner responsibility reminded me: at this moment, she is just a patient. So we immediately started anesthesia. Because the amputation surgery itself is very traumatic and the patient may suffer severe psychological trauma, we gave her general anesthesia. After more than two hours, the operation was successfully completed. When she was leaving, seeing her still somewhat sleepy face, everyone might have been thinking: Now that’s great, her leg is really broken off by the scam. [Knowledge Point] When bones are affected by diseases such as tumors, their stress resistance changes and they become very brittle. A very normal movement may lead to a fracture, which is also a major feature of pathological fractures. So, how to detect it early? In the early stage, there will be pain in the bone, and some people may feel that the bone is abnormal. Therefore, if you find any abnormality, you should seek medical attention in time.
