What is HPV16?

HPV can be divided into high-risk and low-risk types based on the different pathogenicity of HPV subtypes or the size of carcinogenic risk factors.

Damage caused by HPV16

In addition to causing genital warts, high-risk HPV can more importantly cause genital cancer, cervical cancer and high-profile cervical epithelial neoplasia. Its virus infection subtypes mainly include HPV16, 18, 31, 33, 35, 45, 51, 52, 56, 58 and HPV61. Low-risk HPV mainly causes exogenous warts on the skin of the anus and genitals, labia majora and minora, urethra, and vagina, and mild cervical epithelial tumors. Its virus subtypes include HPV6, 11, 30, 39, 42, 43 and HPV44.

How is HPV16 infected?

High-risk HPV is mainly transmitted to humans through direct or indirect contact with environmental contaminants or sexual behavior. After the virus invades the body, it stays in the skin and mucous membranes at the infected site and does not cause viremia. Within 1 to 2 months of the onset of infection, the blood produces corresponding antigens to the infectious virus. If a blood test is done at this time, the result will be positive, and the detection rate is around 50-90%. 15 high-risk HPV types, especially types 16 and 18, are the main causes of high-profile cervical intraepithelial neoplasia and cervical cancer. The detection rate of HPV DNA in cancer tissues using nucleic acid hybridization is as high as 60%.
