Does sedentary behavior only involve sitting? You are wrong.

Nowadays, many people work mainly by sitting, and long-term sitting posture may cause physical damage in many aspects.

A research report from the American Heart Association pointed out that #sitting for 8 hours a day without exercise increases the risk of stroke by 7 times#. What exactly is considered sitting for a long time? #What are the health risks of sitting for a long time in the office#?

1. Does long-term sitting only include sitting?

Not really! The Dietary Guidelines for Chinese Residents summarizes sedentary and static behaviors together, referring to long periods of sitting or lying down, except for sleeping, including long periods of sitting to work, use a computer, watch TV, play with a mobile phone, and other forms of sitting/lying down. [1]

When you sit for a long time, you use very little energy and your body parts don't get exercise.

2. What are the dangers of sitting for a long time?

obesity

Low calorie consumption, fat accumulation, and weight gain.

Back pain

Maintaining a sitting posture for a long time will not only cause back pain, but also easily compress the lumbar intervertebral disc and may cause lumbar disc herniation.

Increased risk of diabetes and all-cause mortality

Prospective cohort studies have shown that prolonged sitting time, either in occupation or leisure, is associated with higher all-cause mortality and an increased risk of diabetes.[1]

Increased risk of stroke

A new study published by the American Heart Association found that people under 60 who sit for eight hours a day and do not exercise have a seven times higher risk of stroke than those who exercise for at least 10 minutes a day and do not sit for long periods of time.[2]

In addition, the researchers found that people who exercised for at least 10 minutes a day and sat for less than four hours had a seven times lower risk of stroke than those who sat for eight hours or less.

Therefore, it is recommended that you sit/lie down less if you can stand or walk. If you live on a low floor, take the elevator less if you can climb the stairs. Take more walks, play ball, or walk the dog.

Interaction: How long have you been sitting at this moment? Get up and move around~
