The Origin of Mount Emei

Mount Emei stands on the bank of the Dadu River, which was called the Rushui River in ancient times. The mountain got its name because it is close to the water, so it is called Rumei Mountain. Mount Emei is just a mountain, and without the water, it changed from Rumei to Emei. The mountain is the eyebrow of the Rushui River. Eyebrow means the eyebrow, and it got its name from the water. As early as 10,000 years ago, there were traces of human habitation in Mount Emei. At first, it was a place for Taoists to practice meditation, but it developed into a Buddhist mountain in the 3rd century AD.

As early as the Spring and Autumn Period and the Warring States Period, Mount Emei was well-known. The name of Mount Emei was first seen in the Western Zhou Dynasty. According to the "Huayang Guozhi? Shuzhi" written by Chang Qu of the Jin Dynasty, "Du Yu used Baoxiang (now Hanzhong, Shaanxi) as the front gate, Xiong'er (now Qingshen County, Sichuan) and Lingguan (now northwest of Lushan County, Ya'an, Sichuan) as the back gate, Yulei (now Guan County, Sichuan) and Emei (now Emei County, Sichuan) as the city walls." Zuo Si of the Jin Dynasty wrote in "Fu on the Capital of Shu": "Drawing the double flow of the two rivers to resist the heavy obstacles of Emei." But why it is called "Emei"? There are different opinions.
