I am zakki: After half a year of ups and downs, I got an offer for a data analysis job. I started preparing to switch to data analysis after resigning from my previous company in December last year. The opportunities for learning can be summarized into two points: 1) I was exposed to statistics and econometrics during my studies. The two teachers who taught me were very responsible and aroused my strong interest in mathematical statistics. 2) My previous job was closely related to data. Although my position was not on the front line of data processing, I had some exposure to tools such as Excel and SQL, which made me develop a strong interest in data. I have seen many career change experiences, and I admire those students with strong execution ability from the bottom of my heart. But for me, the six-month full-time study experience was full of pressure, detours, and adjustment shocks. Even though I have found a job now, I still feel that there is still a long way to go and I still have many hurdles to overcome before becoming an excellent data analyst. Below I will talk about some of my experiences along the way through 3 points. 1. How to submit your resume? The results of my first round of resume submissions were very frustrating. Either I received no response or they were marked as inappropriate. Later, I asked Teacher Monkey and another teacher who does employment consulting to help me revise my resume 1v1. I found that the main problem was that my work experience and project descriptions were incorrect. After making targeted revisions, I felt that the response rate increased significantly in the second round of submissions. Resume preparation is a highly technical area, so it is recommended that students looking for jobs seek guidance from professionals. 2. What is your interview experience? I always believe that an interview is an equal two-way choice, provided that the level of the candidates is met. I once saw a HR from a Fortune 500 company talking about her recruitment logic. In addition to examining basic skills and thinking, she also focused on "relaxation", that is, confidence in the environment and the ability to control the situation. I have interviewed with nearly 20 companies myself, and I agree with her point of view. Here are some of my own views. 1) Introduce yourself Generally, you will be asked to introduce yourself in the first HR interview and the second director interview. This section is a good opportunity for you to sell yourself. Because this is basically your first opportunity to make an impression on the interviewer besides your appearance. During the interview, you need to show your shining points, which can be 985.211 or guaranteed admission to graduate school, corresponding double degrees, high-value projects, etc. 2) Work experience The work experience here is basically what the interviewer is most interested in. You need to take the initiative. Instead of being asked questions by the interviewer, you should think about how to explain the relationship between your past work experience and data analysis. The more specific the better. Of course, you must grasp one principle: replace self-study with work application. 3) Don’t panic if it doesn’t fit Because interview opportunities are so precious, applicants often send out dozens of resumes but may only receive a single-digit response. Therefore, their mentality during the interview is even more low, for fear of losing the opportunity. But it needs to be reiterated that finding a job is a two-way choice. The company is choosing you and you are also choosing the company. I once had an interview at a company. The interviewer had a lie detector test on his face throughout the interview and really didn't trust my self-introduction, which made me feel very uncomfortable. I thought that even if I could join this company, it would be very difficult to deal with such a direct leader. There are also company HRs who think they are in a high position and want to spy on information about peer companies through interviews, which is even more ridiculous. 4) Ask questions at the right time When you have answered almost all the questions and the interviewer has asked almost all the questions, it is time for you to ask questions. I usually ask the following questions. What skills are expected for this position? What does the daily work look like? At this point, some people will say, "It's all written in the recruitment requirements, why do you still ask the interviewer?" But in fact, the recruitment requirements are just a few sentences, and it is difficult to clearly explain what this position is about, and some companies' recruitment requirements are just copy-pasted from other companies. Therefore, you must ask this question. After asking it, you will basically have an idea in your mind whether you are suitable for this position and whether the director thinks you are suitable. How to evaluate the KPI of this position? This question is actually a minefield. Some companies don't know exactly what they want to do when they hire a data analyst, but they just see other companies hiring and they want one too. However, there is no clear division of responsibilities for this position, and the future work of data analysts is also "exploratory", which is actually a rather dangerous thing and a waste of everyone's time. Generally speaking, if it is a similar company, they will not give you a satisfactory answer to this question. 3. What do you do on a daily basis now? My current job is a business analyst for a new retail company. The company mainly uses visualization software for BI analysis. Together with three other colleagues, I monitor the operations of the headquarters and stores and build some site selection models. After joining the company, there is still a lot of new knowledge to learn. I have to sigh that learning never stops. Fortunately, after joining the company, the direction of learning has become clearer, and I will move forward more confidently.
