Introduction: Are high blood pressure and hypertension the same thing? People with high blood pressure do not necessarily have hypertension, and people without hypertension may also experience a sudden increase in blood pressure. 1. The difference between high blood pressure and hypertension Hypertension is a physical disease with the typical symptom of persistently high blood pressure. High blood pressure is a symptom. In a state of fluctuation. High blood pressure does not necessarily mean hypertension, because it can be caused by many conditions. High blood pressure, such as mental and psychological changes, changes in dietary habits, environmental pollution, etc. 2. Definition of Hypertension This is the first update of the guidelines in 14 years. The guidelines redefine the diagnostic criteria for hypertension and abandon the term prehypertension. This definition defines hypertension as ≥130/80 mmHg, of which 130-139/80-89 mmHg is defined as stage 1 hypertension, ≥140/90 mmHg is defined as stage 2 hypertension, and 180/120 mmHg or above is defined as severe hypertension. Severe hypertension. 3. How to use a blood pressure monitor correctly 1. Which is better, a digital sphygmomanometer or a mercury sphygmomanometer? Traditional mercury sphygmomanometers have disadvantages such as environmental pollution, high technical requirements for operation, and inconvenience in carrying. Electronic sphygmomanometers are easy to carry, simple to operate, clean and environmentally friendly, and have no preference for decimal readings. They are more suitable for patients to measure their blood pressure at home, and can better reflect the blood pressure control situation, thereby avoiding "white coat" hypertension. With good accuracy, they can replace mercury sphygmomanometers for measurement in clinical practice. 2. When measuring blood pressure, do I need to measure both hands? It is necessary to measure, because about 20% of people have a difference of more than 10mmHg in the blood pressure of the left and right upper arms, which is called the inter-arm blood pressure difference. Therefore, the blood pressure of the left and right upper arms should be measured when the blood pressure is checked for the first time. When the blood pressure of the left and right upper arms is inconsistent, the higher blood pressure value is used, and the higher side is measured in the future. If the difference in blood pressure between the two sides exceeds 20mmHg, it is likely that there is an abnormality in the blood vessels on the side with lower blood pressure (for example, atherosclerotic lesions lead to vascular stenosis), and you should go to the hospital for a careful examination. 3. When should blood pressure be measured at home? How often should blood pressure be measured? How should the average value be calculated? First, before measuring blood pressure, you should rest for at least 5 minutes. It is recommended that subjects measure their blood pressure once in the morning and evening every day, two to three times each time, and then take the average value. For subjects with large blood pressure fluctuations, it is recommended to measure it for 7 consecutive days, once in the morning and evening every day, two to three times each time, and take the average value of the last 6 days as a reference. 4.What should you pay attention to before measuring blood pressure? First, patients should not smoke, drink coffee, tea or alcohol, or engage in strenuous activities within 30 minutes before measuring blood pressure. They should be calm, empty their bladders, and sit quietly for 5 to 10 minutes. Patients must remain quiet, not talk or move during blood pressure measurement. Second, patients with no mobility impairment should sit, preferably on a chair with a backrest, with their feet naturally on the ground, cuffs tied to their bare arms, and the upper arms with cuffs tied to them placed on the table. The cuffs should be of appropriate size and must be kept at the same level as the heart. When measuring, keep your eyes level and do not stare at the blood pressure counter value to avoid high blood pressure values due to nervousness.
