How seagulls reproduce

April to August is the breeding season for seagulls. They nest in groups on the ground or on rocky beaches near the coast, islands, and river banks. They usually nest in inland freshwater or saltwater lakes, swamps, and small islands by the sea. In some places, the density of bird nests is very high, with two nests 1 to 2 meters apart. Each parent bird demarcates its own sphere of influence and does not allow other birds to invade. The nests are mostly placed on the ground close to the water, on small islands in the water, on reed piles and earth hills. The nest is very simple, made of seaweed, dead grass, small branches, feathers and other things piled up into a shallow dish. Sometimes it also contains a small amount of reeds. Each nest lays 2 to 4 eggs. The eggs are green or olive brown. The male and female take turns incubating the eggs. The incubation period is 22 to 28 days.
