What behaviors that aggravate scoliosis should be avoided in life?

During the Spring Festival every year, the number of patients admitted to hospitals is often high.

The more common ones are alcohol poisoning, fish bones stuck in the throat, and gastrointestinal problems, but in recent years there is one more - spinal problems.

We all know that the spine is very important to the human body. It is the pillar of the body, including cervical vertebrae, thoracic vertebrae, lumbar vertebrae, sacrum, and coccyx. It is responsible for weight bearing, shock absorption, movement, and protection of internal organs and nerves. Even many normal physiological functions of the human body need to listen to its "commands" to proceed. If the spine is deformed, it will affect the function of the spine, and diseases such as cervical spondylosis, intervertebral disc herniation, and soft tissue strain will occur. Therefore, the spine must be well protected.

However, according to statistics, the incidence of scoliosis is as high as 2%-3%, which means that approximately 2-3 people out of 100 will develop scoliosis.

Generally speaking, it is normal for the spine to have a slight scoliosis, but if the scoliosis exceeds 10°, it can be defined as scoliosis. 90% of scoliosis occurs in adolescence, and with age, the degree of scoliosis will increase, and the difficulty of correction will become higher and higher.

Therefore, in daily life, we must pay attention to the protection of the spine and avoid using inappropriate postures that may induce or aggravate scoliosis.

What behaviors should be avoided in daily life that aggravate scoliosis? Sitting for a long time and bowing the head

When we sit, the spine bears 150% of the pressure. If the body leans forward, the spine will bear 250% of the pressure. Most of this pressure is distributed in the neck and waist, so sitting for a long time will make you feel very tired.

If you sit for a long time with your head down while playing with your phone, writing, reading, etc., it will further increase the burden on the spine, keeping the muscles in the neck, shoulders and waist tense, which will lay a "bomb" for the health of the spine over time.

Cross your legs

Crossing your legs may feel good for a while, but doing it all the time will really lead to bad luck. This is because when you cross your legs, the balance of muscle strength on both sides of the body is broken. In order to restore the balance, the body will bend the lumbar spine to one side. If you do this for a long time, the degree of scoliosis will continue to increase, and problems such as pelvic tilt, uneven legs, and uneven shoulders will occur.

Spending too much time on the sofa

It is indeed very comfortable to curl up on the sofa, and you feel very relaxed. But in fact, your muscles are always in a tense state. Especially when you are lying on your side with your head supported, the load on the lumbar spine is almost twice that of a normal sitting position and 6 times that of lying flat! The cervical spine also bears the weight of the head. If this continues for a long time, the physiological curvature of the spine will be changed, the function of dispersing pressure will also be affected, and it may also cause muscle strain, spinal deformity, lumbar disc herniation and other problems.

Long lie

Many people choose to lie on the table for a nap during lunch break for convenience. However, this posture will also cause greater pressure on the lumbar spine, causing lumbar muscle strain, disc herniation, scoliosis and other problems. In addition, lying for a long time will affect the blood circulation of the whole body, which is why some people inexplicably feel numbness in their hands and feet while sleeping.

Long-term weight bearing on one side of the shoulder

Carrying a shoulder bag for a long time or carrying weight on one shoulder for a long time will cause uneven force on the spine. The muscles on one side are in a state of tension for a long time, which will cause scoliosis over time. It is more common among students.

The spine is the pillar of the human body. Don't sacrifice your precious spine for temporary comfort.

If you find that you or your child has any spinal abnormalities, be sure to go to the hospital for a check-up as soon as possible. The earlier it is discovered, the greater the chance of relief.
