There is an appendix in the right lower abdomen, so why is the left lower abdomen uncomfortable? It may be that the intestines are "nervous"

A friend told Huazi that she felt uncomfortable in her lower left abdomen, sometimes constipated and sometimes had diarrhea. She looked up information online and found that the appendix is in the right lower abdomen, and there are no important organs in the left lower abdomen. She went to the hospital for a check-up, but no substantial problems were found. What could be the cause? Huazi told her that it was very likely that the intestines were "nervous", which is also known as irritable bowel syndrome.

1. The intestines affected by emotions In the human body, the central nervous system has the most nerves, and the digestive system has the second most nerves. So when the nerve function is stimulated, it will affect the digestive function. For example, when people are nervous, fearful, anxious, or depressed, they will not want to eat, because emotions will affect the nerves of the digestive system and suppress appetite.

Irritable bowel syndrome is common in people who are nervous, stressed, have experienced special adverse events, or are often in a state of stress. If you usually eat a high-fat, high-sugar, high-protein diet, eat less dietary fiber, or have an irregular diet, often eat sour, spicy and other irritating foods, sit for a long time at work and have less activity, you may also develop this disease.

2. Symptoms but no disease The main characteristic of irritable bowel syndrome is that symptoms appear, but when you go to the hospital for examination, no specific disease can be found. For example, many people feel abdominal pain and discomfort in the left lower abdomen, but no specific problem can be found. This is likely to be this disease. This is because the human body's cecum, appendix and other organs are located in the right lower abdomen, while the left lower abdomen has no important organs.

Some people experience abnormal bowel movements, such as diarrhea, constipation, or alternating diarrhea and constipation. In addition, extraintestinal symptoms such as heartburn, palpitations, shortness of breath, frequent urination, and sexual dysfunction may also occur. Symptoms usually worsen after meals and ease after bowel movements.

3. Symptomatic treatment is only a "temporary treatment" For the treatment of irritable bowel syndrome, diagnosis is very important. Because its symptoms are similar to many digestive tract diseases, a series of examinations such as colonoscopy, gastroscopy, color Doppler ultrasound, and stool tests are usually required. Diseases of the liver, gallbladder, pancreas, thyroid, and related diseases such as diabetes must also be ruled out. Only after the "elimination method" is used to determine that there is no organic disease can irritable bowel syndrome be diagnosed.

Irritable bowel syndrome is usually treated by targeting symptoms. For example, if there is weakened gastrointestinal motility and indigestion, gastrointestinal motility drugs and digestive enzyme preparations can be used; if there is constipation, laxatives can be used to promote defecation; if diarrhea symptoms are severe, antidiarrheal drugs can be used; if gastrointestinal spasms and severe abdominal pain occur, antispasmodics can be used to relieve pain. But the problem is that these drugs only "treat the symptoms but not the root cause", and recurrence is still possible after stopping the drugs.

4. Treating the "heart disease" will get rid of the root cause. In fact, irritable bowel syndrome does not have a specific pathological change. It is the nerve disorder that leads to abnormal intestinal motility and visceral perception. And the more nervous the patient is, the more severe the symptoms will be. After many patients listen to the doctor's explanation and understand the pathogenic mechanism, they will reduce the recurrence rate through drug treatment. If the patient does not understand the pathogenic mechanism and just blindly takes the medicine, the recurrence rate will be very high.

Therefore, irritable bowel syndrome is not actually a digestive disease, but a "mental disease". Correctly understanding the disease is the best way to treat it. Learning to control your emotions and avoiding negative emotions such as tension and anxiety is the prerequisite for curing the disease. At the same time, you should avoid raw, cold, hard, difficult to digest and irritating foods in your diet, maintain a regular schedule in your life, and use drugs to treat the symptoms to cure the disease.

To sum up, if you always feel discomfort in your lower left abdomen and have abnormal bowel movements, but cannot find the cause when you go to the hospital, then it is likely irritable bowel syndrome. The way to cure the disease is to correctly understand the disease and use drugs reasonably for symptomatic treatment under the guidance of a doctor. Some patients have severe anxiety and may need anti-anxiety treatment from a psychologist to be effective. I am pharmacist Huazi, welcome to follow me and share more health knowledge.
