How to diagnose mastitis during lactation

How to diagnose mastitis during lactation

Mastitis is a common breast disease during lactation, accounting for about 10% of pregnant women, which can be regarded as a high incidence of disease during lactation. In fact, in many cases it is all caused by milk blockage, and there will be significant improvement after the blockage is resolved. So, how do you judge whether mastitis during breastfeeding is cured? If you have any questions about breastfeeding, then read on!

How to judge whether mastitis is cured during breastfeeding

Basically, the condition is cured as long as there is no breast swelling, pain, or fever.

1. If you suffer from mastitis while breastfeeding, you need to seek medical treatment in time. If breastfeeding mastitis is severe, it may develop into chronic mastitis. If this is the case, the impact on your body will be greater.

2. If you suffer from mastitis during breastfeeding, you need to take anti-inflammatory drugs in time to relieve your symptoms. You can choose cephalosporins to relieve your symptoms. At the same time, you need to avoid spicy food in your diet.

3. When treating your mastitis, you need to eat more light food, vegetables and fruits. Do not eat greasy food during this period, as this will increase the swelling of your breasts, which can have serious side effects.

It is best to ask a lactation consultant to help you get it out. Breastfeed every 2 to 4 hours and express all the milk after feeding. Use a warm cotton towel to apply heat to the lump for 10 to 20 minutes, massage the lump, rub it back and forth, and squeeze the milk inside to the nipple position. Otherwise, it will quickly develop into mastitis and breast cysts, which will cause fever and require intravenous drips or even surgical incision.

Ways to prevent mastitis during breastfeeding

Before production

1. In the later stages of pregnancy, use 75% ethanol to wipe the nipples, or wash them with warm water to improve the flexibility and resistance of the breast skin. Squeeze the fat plug from the milk duct.

2. If you have inverted nipples, you need to squeeze out your nipples manually and correct them by massage and stretching if you are preparing to get pregnant.

After production

1. Make sure the breastfeeding posture is correct and the baby's sucking method is correct. Do not let the baby only suck the nipple, which will cause the nipple to crack, and the bacteria will enter the mammary duct through the cracked nipple and cause acute mastitis.

2. When feeding, be sure to let the baby empty one breast before eating the other. There is no need to alternate between the two breasts to prevent milk stasis and subacute mastitis caused by the baby not being able to eat milk for a long time. If the mother has plenty of milk and the baby is full after eating from one side, while the other side is very swollen, the milk from the swollen breast must be drained out and not retained in the breast to prevent the formation of lumps and cause acute mastitis. At the same time, cultivate the habit of regular feeding and do not allow the baby to fall asleep with the nipple in his mouth.

3. Alternate between sleeping on your side and lying on your back. It is taboo for the mother to sleep on her stomach. To avoid milk stasis caused by squeezing the breasts and leading to subacute mastitis.
