Zhuge Liang in the Romance of the Three Kingdoms was a native of Yangdu, Langya, Xuzhou, now Yinan County, Linyi City, Shandong Province. In order to realize the political ideal of restoring the Han Dynasty, he launched several northern expeditions, but failed due to various factors. Finally, he died of illness in Wuzhangyuan in the 12th year of Jianxing in Shu Han at the age of 54. Liu Chan posthumously named him Zhongwu Hou, and later generations often honored Zhuge Liang as Wu Hou and Zhuge Wu Hou. The Eastern Jin regime posthumously named him Wuxing King because of his military talents.
