Should the leaves of Cymbidium be trimmed after it blooms? What do the leaves of Cymbidium look like?

Cymbidium is a kind of Chinese orchid. Its flowers are very beautiful and larger than other Chinese orchids. So what should we do after Cymbidium has bloomed? Do we need to prune it? How can we make the leaves of Cymbidium grow well?

Should the leaves of Cymbidium be pruned after it blooms?

When artificially cultivated, after the orchid blooms, the flower arrows are cut off as soon as possible, just like other orchids. Cutting off the residual stalks of the orchid flower arrows is to reduce the consumption of nutrients, avoid overdrawing nutrients in the orchid plant, give the orchid more time to recover, and accumulate more nutrients in the plant body to promote the next flowering and the development of more lateral buds and seedlings. When cutting the flower stalks, choose a sunny morning to disinfect the blade with the sun, which is better than any disinfectant and has no side effects.

If the roots of the cymbidium are not trimmed after flowering, you can fertilize it, and the main nitrogen fertilizer is in spring. After the roots are repaired, no soil is applied, and fertilizer can be sprayed on the leaf surface to supplement nutrients. In short, fertilizer must be supplemented after flowering to make the orchid have a stronger germination ability.

What do good Cymbidium leaves look like?

The leaves of Cymbidium orchid should meet the following requirements for good growth: upright leaf shape, shiny leaf surface, no disease or insect spots, no dead or yellow leaves, and dark green color (except for artistic grass).

1. The upright leaf shape means that the leaves of Cymbidium orchid have strong bones, which has a lot to do with fertilization. Good photographers have always emphasized that the fertilization of Cymbidium orchids should be balanced with nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium. If the nitrogen fertilizer is excessive and the phosphorus and potassium fertilizers are insufficient, it will cause the leaves to grow too long and easily break and fall over.

2. The leaves are shiny. Cymbidium orchids like a humid and ventilated environment. If the environment is too dry and the ventilation is poor, the leaves will appear burnt and dull.

3. Disease and insect spots are important to prevent. Once orchid leaves are infected by diseases and insect pests, they are irreversible and can only be cut off. Prevention is the main method of daily management. Spray with fungicides once every ten days or so, and insecticides can be added to them.

4. There are many reasons for the formation of dead and yellow leaves, including pests and diseases, excessive light, and poor ventilation. Once the dead and yellow leaves cannot be repaired, cut them off in time and grow new seedlings.

5. The rich green color needs to be supported by fertilizers. The chlorophyll of orchids is partly produced by photosynthesis, and the rest is converted by the nitrogen element in the fertilizer. As mentioned earlier, nitrogen fertilizer should not be excessive, but it does not mean that it cannot be applied. The common method of nitrogen fertilizer application by good photographers is foliar spraying. Mixing urea and potassium dihydrogen phosphate together and spraying them on orchid leaves can make orchid leaves evergreen.

How to grow cymbidium orchids indoors

First, determine the placement of the orchid. Cymbidium orchids require more light than spring orchids. It is best to place them facing east, southeast or on a balcony so that they can receive more sunlight.

The pot for Cymbidium orchid should be higher than that for Chunlan, because its roots are very developed. The planting material should be prepared in a ratio of coarse: fine = 7:3. It is best to have base fertilizer when preparing the planting material, as Cymbidium orchid consumes more fertilizer.

Water less often. For example, water once every 8 to 10 days for the above-mentioned planting materials. However, for good ventilation, vents are required for growing Cymbidium orchids indoors, by windows, and on balconies. It is best to form a circulation of air circulation. Cymbidium orchids have few diseases and usually do not require conventional medication, but spraying foliar fertilizer once a month is sufficient.

The bud formation period of Cymbidium is October, and the flower arrows can usually be seen in early December. The flower arrows of Cymbidium must be vernalized at low temperature, otherwise they will not grow up and bloom, and even if they do, the quality of the flowers will be poor. The vernalization temperature is between 2 and 10 degrees, and it takes at least one month. Indoor heated rooms are not suitable for Cymbidium in winter. You can find an indoor space for Cymbidium that is not heated.
