Why do I need to take medicine after having a heart stent? Can I avoid having a stent for coronary heart disease?

Heart stents are one of the treatments for coronary heart disease. However, having a heart stent does not mean that you can be cured once and for all. You can do whatever you want. You still need to take medicine as prescribed by the doctor. Why is that? In addition to stents, is there no other treatment for coronary heart disease?

Why do you take medicine after heart stenting?

When a heart attack occurs, the patient's coronary artery plaque ruptures, thrombus formation occurs, and the blood vessels are blocked. At this time, the blocked blood vessels need to be opened urgently and stents implanted so that the myocardium can get blood supply. Even if a vascular stent is placed, vascular stenosis may still occur again at this point, so antiplatelet aggregation drugs such as aspirin or clopidogrel need to be taken for a long time after the stent surgery to reduce the chance of restenosis.

In addition, as high-risk factors for coronary heart disease, diseases such as hypertension, hyperlipidemia, and diabetes will not disappear automatically due to the placement of stents. They still need to be controlled by medication. Otherwise, coronary arteries will thrombosis again, leading to another myocardial infarction.

For patients with coronary heart disease and myocardial infarction, they must not only take medication regularly, but also use it scientifically according to the doctor's orders.

Is it possible to avoid stenting for coronary heart disease?

First of all, the treatment of coronary heart disease does not necessarily require stenting. Stenting is just one of the treatment methods for coronary heart disease. Most patients with coronary heart disease do not need stenting!

Coronary heart disease is a disease that causes ischemic changes in the heart after the narrowing of the coronary arteries. For patients with mild stenosis and no angina symptoms, it is generally recommended to quit smoking and drinking, eat a low-fat diet, exercise moderately, take lipid-lowering drugs and antiplatelet drugs as prescribed by doctors, as well as drugs that can treat complications such as hypertension and diabetes.

However, if the stenosis becomes more severe after a period of time with the above treatments and frequent angina pectoris occurs, then it is time to install a stent!

After the stent is installed, you must also take the above-mentioned medications, otherwise the blood vessels will continue to narrow, and the stent will be re-blocked by blood lipid deposits and atherosclerotic plaques. The blockage of the stent will be quite troublesome to treat.

Can I eat eggs after having a heart stent?

Coronary heart disease is mostly caused by blood vessel blockage due to coronary atherosclerosis, and one of the main causes of coronary atherosclerosis is hyperlipidemia, among which the increase of low-density lipoprotein is particularly important. Patients after heart stenting still need to control blood lipids to prevent blood vessels from narrowing again. Because egg yolks contain high cholesterol, an ordinary-sized egg yolk contains about 200 mg of cholesterol. It is one-sided to deny that you can't eat eggs based on this.

Cholesterol is not only bad, it is a component of cell membranes and is involved in the biosynthesis of some steroid hormones and bile acid. In addition to cholesterol, egg yolk also contains a large amount of lecithin, which is an essential nutrient for the human brain. If you avoid eating this kind of food too much, it is easy to cause nutritional imbalance, leading to anemia and other diseases.

Therefore, you can still eat eggs after heart stent placement, but you should reduce the intake of egg yolks appropriately.
