When does the Jingzhe thunder strike? Is it good to have thunder and rain when Jingzhe thunder strikes?

Jingzhe is the third solar term of the 24 solar terms. After Jingzhe, the weather warms up and it rains more. After Jingzhe, the first thunder of the year will be heard in various places, which is often called spring thunder. So when does the spring thunder of Jingzhe usually sound?

When does the Jingzhe thunder strike?

"Collected Explanations of the 72 Seasonal Changes in the Lunar Calendar" states: "The second month is the season when all things emerge from the shock of thunder. Thunder is the beginning of the year, so it is called the Waking of Insects, because hibernating insects are startled and flee."

The Jingzhe solar term usually begins on March 5 or 6 every year. In fact, in March, not only are there more spring thunders, but the frequency of short-term heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, strong winds, hail, etc. also increases greatly. It can be said that during the Jingzhe season, the probability of severe convective weather has significantly increased.

At this time, warm and humid air currents begin to become increasingly active, and cold air in the north is still frequent. This is when both the cold and warm air forces are not weak. When the cold and warm air meet, it is easy to trigger severe convective weather.

However, in March, severe convective weather is still concentrated in the south. Judging from the time distribution of the first thunder in my country, many areas in Jiangnan, South China and Yunnan will have their first thunder in February. In March, basically all areas south of the Huaihe River will have their first thunder of the year. However, the first thunder in the north usually has to wait until April or even May.

Is it good to have thunder and rain during the Waking of Insects?

The Jingzhe season is the time of spring warmth, when everything wakes up, the temperature rises, the rainfall increases, and farmers get busy. "A thunderbolt awakens snakes and insects, and a few gusts of rain dye the air purple and red. The warm wind from the south of the Yangtze River brings warmth, and the green fields begin spring plowing." Spring thunder scares away all insects, and warm weather conditions are conducive to the occurrence and spread of many diseases and insect pests, and weeds in the fields also sprout one after another, so farmers are very busy at this time. Prepare for farming.

"When Jingzhe arrives, the hoe never stops." When Jingzhe arrives, farmers start to work on spring ploughing. During this period, farmers are busy planting peanuts, and they dare not take a break even when it rains. In the south, after planting peanuts, they are busy planting rice seedlings. Every household soaks the rice seeds, which must be soaked for two nights before being picked up and allowed to germinate before planting them in the fields for future rice planting.

Jingzhe has an important significance in the busy farming season. Farmers attach great importance to this solar term and regard it as the beginning of spring ploughing. A Tang Dynasty poem says: "A breeze makes all flowers new, and a thunderbolt marks the beginning of Jingzhe. Farmers have been idle for a few days, but now they start to plough."

Why doesn't it thunder when it snows?

Lightning is the discharge phenomenon in thunderclouds. The formation of thunderclouds requires certain conditions, namely, there must be sufficient water vapor in the air, there must be a driving force to make the moist air rise, and the air must be able to produce violent convection movement.

The main condition is that the air must produce violent convection movement to form convective clouds, which will produce lightning.

Snow usually falls in winter, mainly due to the cold air mass from the continent, which prevents convection movement. Naturally, there will be no lightning or thunder.

Thunder can also occur when it snows, but the probability of this happening is extremely small.
