When is there snow at Yulong Snow Mountain?

Jade Dragon Snow Mountain is located 15 kilometers north of Lijiang, with an altitude of 5,596 meters and an area of ​​455 square kilometers. Because of its high altitude, the snow on the top of the mountain is difficult to melt, so Jade Dragon Snow Mountain is covered with snow all year round. From January to May, Jade Dragon Snow Mountain has the most snow, especially in February and March, but this is also the coldest time, so be prepared for the cold.

The scenic area has a snow mountain plank road at an altitude of 4680m, which is the highest point that can be reached. You can take the cable car to an altitude of 4506m, but it is not recommended to go any higher.

According to geologists, the glaciers on Yulong Snow Mountain have a history of at least 8 million years, and most of them are limestone developed from the Devonian to Permian periods. In addition to the perennial snow, there are many rare and endangered animals on Yulong Snow Mountain, such as clouded leopards, Yunnan golden monkeys, and leopards.

Blue Moon Valley

Locals and tourists come here every day to take wedding photos.

Yunshanping

Yunshanping is located on the eastern slope of Yulong Snow Mountain. I would like to explain here that the cableway does not reach Yunshanping. Yunshanping has lush vegetation, mostly spruce, and many rare animals and plants. Because of its secular principles, lush vegetation and numerous animals, this place is the "Third Kingdom of Yulong" in the Naxi mythology.

Yak Ping

Yaoniuping is called "Banlongguo" in Naxi language, which means beautiful snow-capped mountain meadow. It is also the best place to view the thirteen peaks of Yulong Snow Mountain.

The altitude of Yakping is higher than that of Yunshanping. Yakping is mostly grassland. In the past, many yaks were raised here, so it was also called Yakping. Now it has been developed for tourists to visit.

Whitewater River

Between Ganhaizi and Yunshanping, there is a canyon with water flowing all year round. It is meltwater from snow-capped mountains. Because its riverbed is made of marble and limestone, the water flowing through the riverbed appears white, so it is also called Baishui River.

Ski Resort

Yulong Snow Mountain is between 4500m and 4700m above sea level. There is a ski resort with a length of 1km and a width of 600m. There is snow all year round and the snow quality is very good, so it attracts many people to ski all year round. Yulong Snow Mountain is the warmest ski resort in the world and also the ski resort with the longest skiing time in my country.

Glacier Park Cableway

The Glacier Park Cableway is the only cableway that can reach the top of Jade Dragon Snow Mountain directly. It is also one of the preferred routes for many tourists to visit Jade Dragon Snow Mountain. In the snowy area at an altitude of 4506 to 4680 meters, it gives you a chance to challenge your limits and surpass yourself. Of course, because of this, the tickets for the Glacier Park Cableway are often sold out early.

Ganhaizi

You must pass by here when going to any scenic spot of Yulong Snow Mountain. When the weather is good, it is the closest and best place to look up at the whole view of Yulong Snow Mountain. Here you can see the thirteen peaks of Yulong Snow Mountain lined up from north to south, which is very spectacular.

Impression of Lijiang

Impression Lijiang Theater is located near the Ganhaizi scenic spot of Yulong Snow Mountain and opposite the Ganhaizi Tourist Service Center. The theater performance uses the natural scenery of Yulong Snow Mountain as the natural background. It is currently the only live performance performed during the day. The Impression Lijiang performance is grand, with nearly 500 actors performing on the same stage at most. It is called a performance that cleanses the soul.

Ganhaizi is a pasture around the parking lot at the foot of the mountain. If you join a tour group, you will basically just pass by and there will be no time to get off the bus to take a look, because most of the time is spent going to the Glacier Park and Blue Moon Valley. The cable car route does not go to Yakping.

1. Since Yunnan is located in a plateau area, the temperature difference between morning and evening is relatively large. Therefore, no matter what season you come to Lijiang, you must bring a medium-thick jacket and some cooler clothes. In addition, the ultraviolet rays here are relatively strong, so sunscreen, moisturizer, and sunglasses are all necessary to prevent sunburn.

2. Before going up the snowy mountain, it is best to prepare a few chocolates, buy oxygen cylinders, and bring a down jacket. Chocolate is used to replenish energy and does not take up space. Oxygen cylinders can be bought in advance elsewhere, which is cheaper than buying them locally. There are winter clothes for rent at the foot of the mountain, but it is not recommended.
