What is the ESP module of the car? Is the body stability system usually turned on?

ESP is a vehicle body stability system that can automatically adjust and control the vehicle in certain emergency situations to prevent the vehicle from losing control and maintain driving stability. Most cars have ESP, and the cost is not high. It is still very useful for the safety of new cars.

What is the module of car esp

ESP (Electronic Stability Program) is the electronic stability system of the car body, which is composed of sensors in the steering wheel, electronic control unit, engine management system, wheels and other parts, as well as the most important hydraulic regulator. It can monitor the driving status of the vehicle in real time, including the speed of each wheel, engine speed, direction angle, torque in different directions of the body, etc.

For example, on slippery roads with sharp bends, icy roads, or roads with large differences in adhesion between the left and right wheels, or if you suddenly turn the steering wheel in an emergency situation causing the body of the car to increase rapidly, the system can actively adjust to avoid the risk of the car skidding or rolling over.

Once the system calculates and determines that the vehicle is showing signs of losing control, it can correct the vehicle's posture by braking individual wheels, controlling engine speed and other measures to avoid serious oversteer and understeer and thus traffic accidents.

Airbags and ESP are both car safety configurations, but if we take the occurrence of an accident as the node, ESP works before the accident and avoids the accident to a certain extent, while airbags work after the accident to reduce the damage to people. But this does not mean that vehicles equipped with ESP can completely avoid loss of control.

Is the vehicle stability system always on?

ESP is an active safety feature that can actively intervene in the braking and traction of the four wheels. Specifically, when the vehicle oversteers or understeers, it will skid or drift. At this time, ESP obtains the driving condition of the vehicle through sensors and adjusts the engine power. By braking different wheels separately, it can effectively maintain the stability of the vehicle and the controllability of the direction.

Generally, vehicles with ESP are turned on by default, but this function can be turned off. This function only works in emergency situations, and will not work under normal road conditions, and will not affect normal driving. Therefore, it is recommended not to turn it off actively to ensure safety.

How to turn ESP on and off

When the vehicle self-check passes, the ESP symbol on the instrument cluster will go out after the car is started. The button on the car allows the driver to turn off the function. Generally, a short press or a long press can turn it off. After turning it off, the light on the instrument cluster will remind you that the ESC function is turned off.
