Why do car brake discs rust? How to solve the rust of car brake discs?

Why do car brake discs rust? How to solve the rust of car brake discs?

Brakes are the most important part of a vehicle. A car has brake pads and brake discs. If the brake disc of a car is rusty, it is obvious. Whether it is an old car or a new car from a 4S shop, there will be traces of rust. But this does not mean that the car from the 4S shop is not new. Rust means it is broken, which is a normal phenomenon. So how to solve the rust?

Why do brake discs rust?

Except for some high-end cars that may use ceramic brake discs, most brake discs are still made of cast iron, which is very easy to rust in humid weather.

Not only the cars you buy yourself, but sometimes new cars picked up from 4S shops will also have rusted brake discs.

The cars are stored outdoors and will inevitably be exposed to rain or high humidity. In addition, the cars have not been used for a long time, which will cause more severe corrosion, so the surface looks all rusty.

For cars that are used normally, there is no need to worry about rust on the surface of the brake disc. Just drive a few kilometers and step on the brakes, and the surface will be worn very smooth. If you drive at the seaside all year round, it is recommended that you pay attention to the brake disc.

How to solve the rust of brake disc

In one case, the brake pads and brake discs are directly replaced. Some cars are driven by the sea all year round, not only the surface is severely rusted, but also the hollow parts of the brake discs are rusted and fall off piece by piece. In this case, it is recommended to replace them directly, as the corrosion caused by seawater is very exaggerated.

If it is minor rust, you can solve it by driving the car. Just drive a few kilometers and step on the brakes a few times. The friction between the brake pads and the brake discs when braking will have a rust removal effect, and the surface of the brake discs will naturally be worn smooth and shiny.

If the brake disc is rusted due to long-term storage, causing the brake disc to become uneven, then it is important to note that this is not something you can fix by braking a few times and should be dealt with as soon as possible.

Can I apply lubricant to the rusted brake disc?

Of course not. Brake pads and brake discs brake through the friction between each other. The greater the friction, the better the braking effect. Applying lubricating oil is just playing with your own life safety. It would be terrible if you found that there was no effect when you stepped on the brakes.
