How many weeks is the best time to go for the first prenatal check-up? What are the requirements for the first prenatal check-up?

We all know that after a woman becomes pregnant, prenatal check-ups are very important. Almost all pregnant mothers need to go for prenatal check-ups, and they need to do it several times. The content of each check-up is different. So when is the right time to go for the first prenatal check-up after pregnancy? Let's take a closer look!

When is the right time to go for the first prenatal check-up?

Strictly speaking, the first prenatal checkup should be done when the pregnant mother confirms her pregnancy. However, in general, the first prenatal checkup is done at the hospital between 6 and 12 weeks of pregnancy, because abnormal pregnancies, such as ectopic pregnancies, also show symptoms at this stage.

When a pregnant mother has her first prenatal check-up, the doctor will ask many questions, such as age, occupation, menstruation, how many babies she is expecting, whether she has had miscarriages, or has had induced abortions.

There will be some basic examinations during the first visit, such as measuring height and weight, blood pressure, blood tests, urine tests, reproductive organ tests, etc.

What are the items in the first prenatal check-up

1. Routine blood and urine tests, first line up for blood draw, then urine test, blood sugar, liver function, four viral tests, urine protein, urine code, etc. You can eat after that.

2. Measure height, weight, blood pressure, waist circumference, and do an electrocardiogram

3. Listen to the fetal heart rate and record it

4. Gynecological examination. If you have had the examination before, you can bring your own receipt.

5. Thyroid, if you haven't done it before pregnancy, you should do it this time. But this is at your own expense, and some community hospitals may not be able to do it.

6. NT examination, measurement of the thickness of the fetal nuchal translucency, which is usually not available in community hospitals and needs to be done in large hospitals. This examination is also very important. Generally, a result less than 3mm is normal. If it exceeds 3mm, the probability of Down syndrome may increase, and further fetal malformation examination is needed in the later stage.

What should you pay attention to during your first prenatal checkup?

1. Have a good rest the night before

Make sure to get a good rest the night before the prenatal check-up and avoid overwork and staying up late, because not only do you have to get up early the next day, but you also have to wait in line in the hospital for a long time, which is very physically demanding.

2. Fasting

These blood tests require blood draw on an empty stomach, so pregnant mothers should be on an empty stomach in the morning and not eat breakfast or drink water.

3. Bring some snacks

The mother can prepare some snacks in her bag in advance, such as milk and biscuits, so that in case she becomes exhausted after waiting for a long time, she can eat something to replenish her energy after having her blood drawn.

4. Wearing should be convenient

The basic advantage of wearing clothes during prenatal check-ups is that they are loose and easy to put on and take off. Wearing clothes that fit properly can not only save time, but also avoid the tension caused by the inconvenience of putting on and taking off.

5. List the questions you want to ask in advance

Because doctors are very busy and have less time allocated to each pregnant woman, in order to avoid wasting time and forgetting problems, it is best for pregnant women to list the questions they want to ask the doctor on paper, or have an idea in mind in advance. It is not recommended to ask the doctor questions without a purpose.
