My car won't start after one month of not being used. What's the reason? How to protect the battery if I don't drive it?

Almost every household has a car now, but not everyone drives it every day. Many friends have cars that have been parked for a long time, but they can't start when they want to start again. What's the situation? This is probably because the battery has been automatically discharged after a long period of non-use. If we want to park the car for a long time, how should the battery be handled? Let's learn together!

Why can't the car start after not using it for a month?

This situation should be caused by the battery being low on power. When a car is parked for a long time, the battery will self-discharge. Generally, the self-discharge will cause the capacity to drop by more than 1% every day and night. If there are electrical appliances in the car, the discharge will be greater; if the battery is in poor technical condition, the self-discharge rate will also increase greatly. Therefore, a general car battery will not be able to start the engine if it is parked for more than a month.

How to protect the battery when the car is not running

When the car is not used for a long time, unplug the negative grounding wire of the battery!

When driving a short distance (within 2 kilometers) and starting and stopping many times, it will also lead to battery depletion, because the power consumed by the starting motor is much more than the power charged by the engine running in a short distance!

Finally, when the temperature drops in winter (minus 25°), the battery performance decreases. Pay more attention to the battery charging status. If the electric eye is green, it is normal. If it is transparent, please run the engine for a while to charge. If it is black, please replace the battery directly (the battery electrolyte has expired and the battery is scrapped)!

How to start the car if it won't start?

The only solution is to use the battery of another vehicle to start the car. If it is a manual transmission car, you can also push the car to start it. However, if the battery is completely dead, the car cannot be pushed. When the car is parked, the battery must be kept fully charged. When the car is parked, turn off all electrical appliances and remove all positive and negative connections of the battery. This can reduce the discharge rate of the battery and extend the battery life.
