How to best store Pu'er tea

1. Choose a cool and dry place, avoid direct sunlight. It is best to avoid east exposure and west exposure at the same time. The so-called east exposure means not being exposed to the sun at sunrise, and west exposure means avoiding being exposed to the sun at sunset. If you can't take both into account, west exposure must be avoided.

2. Store raw and cooked tea separately. Go to the market and buy a few cartons, preferably double-layer or more-layered corrugated cartons. If the tea is purchased in pieces, just place the original pieces. If the tea is purchased in bags or single cakes, separate the raw and cooked teas, and place them in sealed boxes slowly according to the year.

3. Buy a few wooden racks or boards. The height of the wooden racks should be 10 cm, and the height of the wooden boards should also be 10 cm. Put the tea cartons on the wooden racks or boards, away from the ground and the wall.

4. Buy a few kilograms of charcoal. If you have the means, buy bamboo charcoal. If you don't have the means, just buy ordinary charcoal. During the wet season every year, divide the charcoal into several portions, half a kilogram each, and place them in different corners of the tea room. After the wet season is over, take out the charcoal. When the weather is good, expose the charcoal to the sun, seal it up, and take it out for use in the wet season next year.

5. In the humid season, it is forbidden to open the windows. Wait until the weather is fine and open the windows for ventilation. Try to avoid opening the windows at night. On ordinary days, when it is not raining, open the windows for ventilation for about half an hour every half a month in the afternoon when the weather is clear. In summer, it is better to open the windows in the morning or evening.

6. If the area has a particularly long wet season every year, you can wrap the outside of the cardboard box with plastic wrap during the wet season to isolate it from moisture.

7. If you are in the dry north, you can consider placing a few basins of water in the tea storage space to adjust the humidity. But be careful to change the water to prevent it from becoming smelly.
