Characteristics of lily

1. Appearance characteristics

1. The height of the lily plant can reach 70~150 cm. The bulb is white and spherical in shape. The stem is very upright, cylindrical and has purple spots on it, making it very easy to identify.

2. The leaves are alternate and have no petioles. Most of the leaves are lanceolate or elliptical-lanceolate in shape, and the veins are arc-shaped.

3. When lilies bloom, the flowers are white, but there are also other colors. The flowers are large, roughly funnel-shaped, and the seeds are oval. They are very elegant and look very noble.

2. Habits and Characteristics

1. Lilies have very strong vitality, and the most suitable growth temperature is between 15℃ and 25℃. When the temperature in summer is higher than 35℃, it is best to move them to a cool place and spray water on the leaves to cool them down. When the temperature in winter is lower than 5℃, move them to a warm room to avoid frost damage.

2. It has a certain degree of drought resistance. It does not need to be watered frequently during maintenance. Just water it thoroughly once when the soil is about to dry out. Do not water it too much each time, otherwise it will easily cause water accumulation, rot the roots of the plant, and affect normal growth.

How to grow lilies

The most suitable temperature for lily growth is 15-25℃, so cooling and shading and heat preservation measures should be taken in hot summer and cold winter respectively. Moreover, lilies are drought-tolerant and afraid of waterlogging, so sandy loam with well-decomposed compost and good drainage is the best culture soil. Heavy clay will cause the bulbs of lilies to rot.

Because lilies are drought-tolerant, you only need to keep the surface of the soil moist. Spring is its peak growth season, and it generally needs to be watered every four to five days. In the hot summer, the water in the plants evaporates very quickly, so it generally needs to be watered every two days. In autumn and winter, lilies will gradually enter a dormant period, and you can water them once the soil is completely dry.

If you want lilies to grow well, fertilization is also essential. Generally, nitrogen fertilizer can be applied once every half a month in spring and summer and before and after flowering. After reducing fertilization in autumn, lilies do not need to be fertilized in winter when they enter a dormant period.
