Can I have a baby if I have varicocele?

Although varicocele is closely related to male infertility, not all patients are unable to conceive normally or have reduced fertility. At present, 60% of patients with varicocele in clinical medicine can conceive normally, and only 40% of patients cannot conceive normally due to reasons such as too low A-grade sperm density, too low sperm motility, and too poor sperm survival rate.

Varicocele is a common disease in men, which is caused by long-term sitting or excessive exercise. This will cause the temperature around the male testicles to rise, and the deposition of endotoxins will affect the spermatogenesis of the male testicles. This will affect the survival rate of male sperm and the effect of fertility. Once you are diagnosed with varicocele, it is recommended that you go to the hospital for an ultrasound examination to see the extent of the varicocele. Do a routine semen test later to see if varicocele affects the quality of male sperm.

If a man's sperm quality is severely reduced, surgery is the preferred treatment option. Generally, surgical treatment is divided into three plans: open varicocele ligation, laparoscopic varicocele ligation, and microscopic varicocele ligation. All three plans can be chosen. This is a basic surgical treatment with a relatively high safety factor. Nowadays, surgical treatment is also relatively complete and can generally be performed in a reliable tertiary hospital. This operation usually requires hospitalization for about a week. After the operation, you should rest more and lie down as much as possible, and avoid sitting for a long time or exercising excessively.

However, this type of surgical treatment also has a certain recurrence rate, which is around 20%. Therefore, it is better to maintain a normal lifestyle and pay more attention to reduce the chance of recurrence as much as possible. Generally, everything can be repaired after surgery, so it will not affect the function of pregnancy. Also, if the ultrasound shows that varicocele is not very serious and does not affect the survival rate of male sperm, then there is no need for surgical treatment first, and conservative treatment can be chosen.
