Chrysanthemum, also known as chrysanthemum leaf, roadside yellow, wild chrysanthemum, is a perennial herb. It is rich in nutrients and has the effects of cooling, relieving heat, appetizing, and lowering blood pressure. The optimum growth temperature is 12-20℃. There are two main varieties in northern Jiangsu, one with small leaves and the other with large leaves. Large-leaf chrysanthemum is mostly used in production.

1. Site selection and land preparation:

It is better to choose fertile sandy loam. Before sowing or transplanting, apply enough base fertilizer and carefully prepare the land to make a ridge with a width of 1.2-1.5m and a height of about 20-30cm.

2. Reproduction method:

Chrysanthemum can be propagated by seeds, division and cuttings. Cuttings are preferred. The method is: in May and June, select tender shoots about 5-6 cm long, remove 2-3 leaves from the stem, and cut the tender shoots into the seedbed at a depth of 1/3 of the length of the tender shoots. After cutting, keep the soil moist and shade it with a sunshade net. It will survive in about half a month. The planting density is 30cm-30cm.

3. Field management:

First, apply enough basal fertilizer and apply "brain-growing fertilizer" frequently. Apply about 2,500 kg of decomposed organic fertilizer per 667 square meters. Apply thin human and animal manure once in combination with rooting water when planting, about 1,500 kg per 667 square meters, to facilitate survival. Apply topdressing once in combination with watering after each harvest, and apply about 2,000 kg of decomposed human and animal manure per 667 square meters each time.

4. Harvesting and seed saving:

Protected cultivation can be harvested as early as March, while open-field cultivation generally begins harvesting in April-May. The peak harvest period is from May to August, and harvesting is done every half a month until buds and flowers appear in October-November. The more harvests are made, the more vigorous the branches will be. Frequent picking can also avoid aphid damage. The harvesting standard is that the stems are tender and can be broken by hand, and then tied into small bundles for sale.
