How to graft black olives to achieve a high survival rate

Black olives are generally harvested from early March to late May.

First, hold the rootstock firmly with your hands, cut it with a sterilized pruning shears about 10 cm from the ground, use a sterilized knife to break it in the middle of the cut section, and quickly insert the scion. Note that at least one side of the cambium of the scion and the rootstock should be aligned. Then take a small ball of medical cotton wool, spread it into a thin layer and wrap it around the grafting site to help it absorb the rootstock sap (juice), maintain the moisture of the interface, promote healing, and increase the survival rate.

Then use a special grafting thin mold to tie the grafting point tightly. After that, strengthen pest control and fertilizer and water management. When the seedlings above the grafting point are up to 50 cm and the stems on the grafting point are about 1.5 cm thick, they can be planted.

What should be paid attention to when growing black olives?

1. Temperature

Black olive is a typical subtropical peach tree, which likes high temperature and is afraid of frost. The annual average temperature is around 22℃, the average temperature in January can be around 13℃, and the temperature cannot be below -2.5℃.

2. Water

The rhizomes of black olives like moisture and avoid waterlogging, which can easily cause the rhizomes to rot and grow poorly. Appropriate water should be given during the breeding period, which is conducive to the good growth of plants. It is better for the soil used for breeding to be slightly moist.

3. Soil

Black olives are not very particular about soil. They can be planted in red soil, yellow soil, river alluvial soil, sandy soil, gravel soil and light clay soil. But it is best to choose slightly acidic soil with a pH value of 4.5-6, which is thick, loose, moist, well-drained and alkaline.

4. Lighting

Black olive is a sun-loving peach tree, and can also tolerate shade, so in the process of plant cultivation, it is necessary to give it more light time. At the same time, in the hot summer, it is necessary to pay attention to proper light blocking to prevent the leaves from being burned and promote the growth of the plant, so that the leaves can grow bright green and the petals can bloom more beautifully.
