Is hemlock easy to grow? How does hemlock grow vigorously?

Hemlock is a highly ornamental plant. It is loved by people because of its emerald green color and wide range of uses. So is hemlock easy to grow? How can hemlock grow vigorously? I will explain them one by one, hoping to help you.

Is hemlock easy to keep alive?

Any plant can be well cared for as long as its habits are known and followed, and hemlock is no exception. It is said that hemlock can only be exposed to half a day, and should not be watered unless it is dry. Fertilizer should be applied once every half a month to a month (chemical fertilizer is fine), and chili liquid made of chopped chili and water (1:10 soaked for one hour) should be sprayed once every 20 days or so.

How does hemlock grow vigorously?

1. Soil layer

Hemlock is suitable for growing in thick, rich, well-drained sandy soil. It likes acidic or slightly neutral soil quality. In the breeding process, adding some river sand and black mountain mud will make it grow better.

2. Lighting

It likes shade and needs moderate light in the middle and late stages of growth. It is suitable for planting in areas with good ventilation and backlight. When the light is strong in summer, it needs moderate shading.

3. Temperature

It is suitable for growing in a cool climate. The most suitable growth temperature for it is 15-23℃ in a year, and it should not be lower than 8℃ in winter. In the hot weather stage, it is necessary to shade appropriately and take cooling measures. In the extremely low temperature stage in winter, take cold-proof and warm-keeping measures to help it survive the winter safely.

4. Watering

It likes a humid natural environment. Every time you water it, you must water it thoroughly to keep it in a humid environment. In summer, you can water it once every morning or evening, and once every 2-3 days in spring and autumn. In winter, increase the watering moderately, and water it once every 5-7 days.

5. Fertilize

It is relatively tolerant to fertilizer. In the early stage of growth, 0.5% urea solution is applied every ten days. In the mature stage of growth, after watering, topdressing with compound fertilizer, grass ash, etc. In the middle and late stages of growth, fertilization should be stopped. You can spray 0.3%-0.5% potassium dihydrogen phosphate aqueous solution once to promote the woodization of green seedlings and facilitate safe wintering.

How to Identify Hemlock

1. Appearance

Hemlock is an evergreen shrub, about 25-30 meters tall, with a breast diameter of about 40-80 centimeters. The bark peels off in flaky, brown-gray color, and the large branches spread out flat and drooping. The crown is tower-shaped.

2. Blades

The leaves of hemlock are strip-shaped, entire, with blunt and concave tips. The leaf surface is green and shiny, and the back of the leaf is slightly lighter, light green, with two stomatal bands.

3. Growth environment

Hemlock is a shade-tolerant tree species. Except for young trees that cannot withstand strong light, mature trees can grow at the edge of the forest. It is very suitable for them to grow in foggy, rainy, humid mountainous areas with acidic soil and good drainage. They have strong natural pruning ability, wind resistance and deep root formation, so their lifespan can reach hundreds of years.
