Does hydroponic gardenia need sunlight? How to grow hydroponic gardenia

Gardenia is a very common flower plant, which can be seen everywhere. Gardenia is very easy to grow, and its fragrance is very fresh. It can bloom for a while even when placed in water, so gardenia can also be hydroponically grown. So does hydroponically grown gardenia need to be exposed to the sun?

Does hydroponic gardenia need sunlight?

It depends.

The gardenias grown in water are cleaner than those grown in pots, and you can see the roots growing, so they are easy to care for. However, the gardenias that have just been grown in water have not yet grown new roots, so they should not be exposed to direct sunlight and should be placed in a ventilated place to encourage them to grow roots.

When new white roots grow out, they will be exposed to scattered light. Especially in summer, they should not be exposed to direct sunlight. If the water dries up, water should be added in time. You can also add a small amount of nutrient solution. In autumn and winter, when the temperature is low, they should be placed in a sunny place with sufficient light.

When growing gardenias in water, be sure to keep warm in winter, otherwise the water will freeze and the roots will definitely be frozen, affecting their growth and survival.

How to grow gardenia hydroponically

1. Ensure sufficient light

Gardenia must have sufficient light to grow normally, especially during the flowering period of gardenia. It requires sufficient light every day to bloom better. If the light is insufficient, there will be fewer flowers, poor condition, or even withering after flowering. Therefore, even hydroponic gardenias must maintain sufficient light.

2. Suitable moisture conditions

Gardenia likes a warm and humid environment. When hydroponic gardenias have not yet taken root, the water needs to be changed every day. After about a week, you don’t need to change the water every day. You only need to change the water once a week or so!

3. Appropriate application of nutrient solution

The fertilization rules for hydroponic gardenias and soil-grown gardenias are the same, but because they are hydroponics, in order to allow the roots to better absorb nutrients, we generally choose nutrient solution fertilizer. Generally, we should apply appropriate fertilizers during the seedling stage, bud formation stage and flowering stage of gardenias, especially before the buds are formed. In order to promote more flowering of gardenias, we can apply a little potassium dihydrogen phosphate, apply it once every half a month or so, and stop after the buds are formed. In this way, the flowers will be big and beautiful!

4. Pruning

Hydroponic gardenias also need pruning! In order to reduce nutrient consumption and increase and maintain the ornamental value, we need to prune the gardenias in a timely manner. Prune the long branches and branches without buds that affect the ornamental value, and cut off the dead branches and thin branches that consume nutrients, reducing unnecessary nutrient consumption, and the remaining gardenias can grow better!

How many times a year does gardenia bloom?

How many times a year does gardenia bloom? This depends on the different varieties. It also blooms differently in the south and the north. It blooms more in the south than in the north. In the north where the winter is colder, it generally does not bloom in winter, while it can bloom in the south in winter.

Small-leafed flowers bloom all year round, while large-leafed flowers can bloom for three seasons. As long as they are cultivated well, they will bloom. If they are not bred well, they may only bloom once a year. Flowers grown by different people in the same area will bloom differently, which depends on personal level.

You also need to know how to prune the flowers. The quality of pruning also determines how many flowers bloom. Growing flowers is not a simple process. How you use fertilizer, soil, and water them all determine how well your flowers grow.
