Why does jasmine always drop its leaves? How to solve it?

Jasmine is a very common flower in life. Because of its fragrant smell and easy survival, many flower lovers like to grow some at home. But the leaves of jasmine flowers fall off while growing them. So why does jasmine flowers fall off leaves? How to solve the problem of jasmine flowers always falling off leaves? Let's take a look.

Why does jasmine shed its leaves?

1. Plants lack water

Although jasmine has a certain degree of drought resistance, sometimes the plant is seriously lacking in water during the growth period, and some older leaves will form a detachment layer at the petiole. After watering again, the leaves will quickly become energetic. But after a few days, some older leaves will turn yellow and fall off. Later, if there is sufficient fertilizer and water, this will basically not affect the continued growth of the plant.

2. Excessive watering

Since jasmine is a flower that likes light very much. In order to make the plant grow vigorously, with green leaves and fragrant flowers. The plant will not grow too long and the number of flowers will decrease. Therefore, during the entire growth period, the plant must be placed in a place with the strongest sunlight and no shade for maintenance. Due to the large evaporation in summer, the plant must be placed in a place with the most sunlight. This requires us to add water to the plant frequently, but the frequency and amount of watering must be moderate and controlled. When watering is excessive, the soil in the pot has been in a muddy state for a long time, and the soil in the pot does not have good looseness and air permeability. At this time, the root system of the plant will easily cause waterlogging and rot. After the root system rots, the symptoms will quickly react on the leaves. First, the old leaves gradually turn yellow and fall off, and then gradually spread upward and the leaves fall off.

3. Excessive fertilization

Jasmine likes water and fertilizer during its growth period. However, the more fertilizer and water, the better. Any kind of flower should follow the principle of thin fertilizer and frequent application. If uncomposted organic fertilizer is used for jasmine plants, or excessive chemical fertilizer is used. It may cause damage to the root system of the plant and burn the roots. When excessive fertilizer is applied at one time and the roots are damaged, usually two or three days after fertilization, the leaves of the plant wilt, then turn yellow and fall off. Similar to waterlogging and root rot, when fertilizer damage is serious, it will continue to spread upward to the entire plant. It is basically irreparable.

How to solve the problem of jasmine flowers always falling leaves

When jasmine is suffering from drought and water shortage, the branches, leaves and flowers will lack vitality. When watering jasmine, you should follow the principle of "don't water unless it's dry, and water thoroughly when you do". It's best to choose a water temperature that's suitable for the soil when watering, but be careful to avoid water accumulation. Water accumulation for too long will lead to poor soil permeability and easily cause root rot in jasmine. A big reason why leaves dry and fall off is related to unreasonable watering.

How to prune and repot jasmine

When caring for jasmine, you need to repot it once every spring. When repotting, cut off the dead branches, leaves, and weak branches, and cut off two-thirds of the thin roots, which is conducive to the growth of more new roots to better absorb nutrients and water. The bottom of the pot needs to be padded with one-third small bricks or foam blocks for better ventilation. The culture soil must contain one-third fine sand to keep it loose.
