Color change pictures of lochia

As we all know, postpartum lochia is the process of pregnant women expelling some body wastes out of the body after giving birth, which is similar to the monthly menstruation. It is a good thing for pregnant women because it is detoxifying the body. So, what is the color change of postpartum lochia? Postpartum lochia is not static. It will be discharged about three weeks after giving birth. Due to the differences in pregnant women's bodies, some people only need half a month to discharge postpartum lochia, while some take up to six weeks. During this period, the color of postpartum lochia is generally different. With the passage of time, the color of lochia will change from bright red to milky white, which also indicates that the stage of lochia discharge is about to pass.

Because of uterine contractions, the embryo falls off the inner wall of the uterus, and the blood vessels in the inner wall of the uterus will naturally bleed. Then, as the uterus repairs, the blood vessel ends gradually close and postpartum lochia is produced. In this process, the secretions of blood, deciduous tissue and mucus that fall off the uterine wall are called lochia. In fact, clearing lochia after giving birth is also a feature of the uterus in repair. Discharging lochia after giving birth is beneficial to the body of pregnant women, and from the changes in the color of postpartum lochia, some of the body problems of the mother can also be seen. The normal color changes of postpartum lochia are: bright red, light pink, and milky white. This is also a normal change in the color of lochia. During the period of lochia discharge, pregnant women should pay attention to the cleanliness and dryness of their private parts, and change their underwear and sanitary napkins frequently. If the color of the lochia changes abnormally, they should pay attention to whether their private parts are infected.

Types of lochia in parturients

Generally, it takes three weeks for a woman to discharge lochia. During this period, as the color of lochia changes, we can easily divide lochia into bright red lochia, serous lochia, and chloasma.

There are three types of lochia: red lochia, serous lochia and white lochia. The shapes and colors of these three types of lochia are different, and the duration is also different. Below we will describe the three types of lochia: red lochia, serous lochia and white lochia.

Bright red lochia: Bright red lochia is common in the first week after giving birth. The amount of lochia is large, the color is bright red, and it contains a lot of blood, small blood clots and necrotic decidual tissue. It is called bright red lochia. Stubborn lochia lasts for three to four days, the amount of abnormal uterine bleeding gradually decreases, the serum increases, and it changes into serous lochia.

Lochia serous: The duration of lochia serous is from one week to more than ten days. The amount of blood in the lochia is small, and the main components are necrotic decidua, cervical mucus, female secretions and bacteria, which cause the lochia to become a light red serum. At this time, the lochia is called lochia serous. Serous lochia lasts about ten days, the serum level gradually decreases, the white blood cells increase, and the lochia becomes white lochia.

White lochia: Serous lochia is generally common after ten days to three weeks. The lochia at this stage no longer contains blood, but contains a lot of white blood cells, decidua, epidermal cells and bacteria, making the lochia more viscous and white in color, so it is called white lochia. The white lochia lasted for three weeks without any bleeding.
