Pregnancy while taking methimazole

Pregnancy while taking methimazole

I think the purpose of patients using methimazole tablets is to give full play to the effect of the drug! Methimazole tablets are actually anti-thyroid cyst drugs; they are suitable for various types of hyperthyroidism, but what should you do if you get pregnant while taking methimazole? This is also what many women want to know. Let's take a look at it below.

What should I do if I get pregnant while taking methimazole?

It is generally recommended that pregnant women should not use it. It is recommended to consult a gynecologist in time and carry out treatment under the guidance of a doctor. Pay more attention to rest during this period to avoid excessive fatigue and mental stress. Drink more water, eat a light diet, and eat less foods high in iodine. Do an ultrasound examination immediately and check thyroid hormone regularly.

Methimazole integration into the group:

Patients with relatively mild blood pressure conditions and mild to moderate swelling of thyroid cysts;

Blood adolescents and children, juveniles, and elderly patients;

Supplement for patients who develop the disease after thyroid surgery and are not suitable for treatment with the radioactive substance 131I;

Preparation for weight-bearing surgery;

Full-term use as an adjuvant treatment for 131I chemoradiotherapy.

Methimazole tablets are mainly used to treat hyperactive thyroid gland. Methimazole tablets can generally be taken by swallowing a whole tablet with appropriate liquid (such as half a glass of water) after a meal. In the early stage of treatment, depending on the severity of the symptoms, the dosage of methimazole is 2b250g~4b250g (measured as methimazole) per day (initial treatment), once a day or twice a day (the total daily dosage is the same).

If the condition improves during the 2nd to 6th week of treatment, the doctor can gradually adjust the dosage as needed. The dosage for the next 1 to 2 years is 2.5 mg to 1250 g per day (calculated as methimazole); it is strongly recommended to be taken once a day after breakfast, and can be taken with thyroid hormone if necessary.

For patients whose conditions have worsened, especially those whose thyroid hormone is more hyperactive due to iodine intake, the dosage can be increased moderately. The actual operation method and the dosage to be used still need to be determined based on the patient's detailed situation.
