Do I need to take medicine for menopausal hypertension?

Hypertension stage 1 is also called mild hypertension, and it is not recommended to use antihypertensive drugs for immediate treatment. First of all, start by improving your lifestyle, reducing weight, keeping BMI within 24kg/㎡ as much as possible, limiting the daily intake of cooking salt and various pickled foods to less than 6g, supplementing with potassium salt and folic acid tablets, and eating more fruits and vegetables. Check blood pressure for about 3 months. If it is still high, it is recommended to use antihypertensive drugs to control blood pressure within 140/90MmHg.

Stage 1 hypertension refers to a systolic blood pressure of 140-159 mmHg and a systolic blood pressure of 90-99 mmHg. If you discover stage one hypertension for the first time, you can lower your blood pressure by changing your current behavior. A low-fat and low-calorie diet should be combined, and the daily salt intake should not exceed 6 grams. Eat more fruits and vegetables, especially fruits high in potassium such as bananas, apples, and oranges. Participate in more literary and artistic outdoor activities to keep a happy mood. If the blood pressure still does not drop after half a year or if there is diabetes or renal insufficiency, antihypertensive drugs may be needed.

Whether patients with hypertension need to take long-term medication depends mainly on the patient's current condition and the type of hypertension he currently has. For example, primary hypertension, which is caused by genetic or unclear reasons, generally requires long-term oral antihypertensive drugs for life. If the patient has secondary hypertension, that is, the cause of the hypertension can be found, and if this cause can be eliminated, the blood pressure will gradually stabilize and there will be no need to take antihypertensive drugs.

Therefore, it is difficult to give a general answer as to whether patients with hypertension need to take medication for a long time. Some patients may have adolescent hypertension due to heavy academic pressure and staying up late. After adjusting their work and rest time and relieving stress, their blood pressure will improve or the hypertension will disappear. In these cases, there is no need to take antihypertensive drugs for a long time.
