The injury often appears as a single red maculopapule or papule at the beginning, which gradually expands and bulges into a ring-shaped or oval lump with clear boundaries, 1-2 cm in diameter, cartilage-like texture to the touch, erosion in the center or shallow ulceration, with clean red granulation tissue at the base of the ulcer and a small amount of serous secretion on the surface, which contains a large number of Treponema pallidum and is highly infectious.
