How to stimulate amniotic fluid to break

Rupture of water, also known as broken amniotic fluid, refers to the situation where amniotic fluid is discharged from the pregnant mother's vagina after the amniotic membrane ruptures. In the late stages of pregnancy, when women are about to give birth, their bodies will show some prenatal symptoms, among which breaking of amniotic fluid is a very common phenomenon. However, for some friends in the late stages of pregnancy, some women whose due date has already arrived, have delayed breaking of amniotic fluid and have no signs of it. How can they stimulate the breaking of amniotic fluid by themselves?

There are some ways, such as strolling to increase exercise intensity; stimulating the nipples to cause uterine contraction; having sex, which may cause amniotic fluid rupture, but may also cause infection and placental abruption. Sexual intercourse is strictly prohibited in the late pregnancy.

It is not recommended to rupture the amniotic fluid through self-stimulation. As the fetus grows, the fetal membrane usually ruptures by itself before and after delivery. If the amniotic fluid ruptures during delivery, it is considered placental abruption. There are many complications of placental abruption, such as oligohydramnios, umbilical cord prolapse, umbilical infection, amniotic fluid embolism, etc., which are not conducive to normal delivery and may cause dystocia in head-presenting pregnant women. Therefore, it is recommended not to cause placental abruption due to its own stimulation.

What to do if the amniotic fluid breaks without uterine contractions

1. When uterine contractions are intermittent

When the uterus contracts intermittently, the expectant mother should rest quietly to restore her strength. If abdominal pressure and uterine contraction force cooperate properly, the delivery time of the fetus will be significantly shortened. However, if the force is not used properly, it will not play the desired role. For example, some expectant mothers scream, cry and make a fuss desperately, which not only consumes energy and causes fatigue, but also causes uterine contraction fatigue, affecting the progress of the delivery process.

2. When the cervix is fully dilated

When your cervix is fully dilated and the perineum swells, the expectant mother should exert appropriate force when the uterus contracts to increase abdominal pressure and help the uterus contract to promote delivery. When the uterus contracts, the expectant mother should first take a breath, close her throat, and hold her breath to increase abdominal pressure as if she was defecating. This increase in intra-abdominal pressure will drive the uterus to contract, which can accelerate the delivery of the baby.

3. When the fetal head position drops to a very low level

When the fetal head is in a very low position, abdominal pressure is most suitable. At this time, the doctor will perform a routine check and advise the expectant mother to use abdominal pressure. If the cervix is not fully dilated, even if you have a strong urge to defecate and need to push, do not push to avoid causing fatigue in the late stages of labor. You should breathe openly when your uterus contracts, relaxing your muscles, and not holding your breath.
