Are long-acting contraceptives harmful to the body?

Taking emergency contraception is the main method of contraception for many women. However, emergency contraception may have some side effects and is not suitable for all women. So, what kind of women are not suitable for using emergency contraception? What are the common questions about taking emergency contraception? Common emergency contraceptives include injectable Chinese medicine preparations, external application Chinese medicine preparations, subcutaneous tissue Chinese medicine preparations, and oral Chinese medicine preparations. They all have advantages and disadvantages as described below:

1. Injectable Chinese herbal preparations: They are all highly effective drugs. Since the dosage for emergency contraception is large, the side effects are also great, and injection is inconvenient, the proportion of people using them at this stage is not high.

2. External application of Chinese medicine preparations: generally gel or vaginal suppository, easy to use, does not affect endocrine and menstruation, and has a lubricating effect on the vagina, especially suitable for menopausal couples, but the operation method is more stringent, the actual effect of contraceptive measures can be easily affected.

3. Subcutaneous emergency contraceptive implant: This contraceptive is easy to use and contains only estrogen, not female hormone. Therefore, the side effects are smaller than birth control pills, and the contraceptive effect lasts longer. One implant can provide contraception for 5 years, but it requires surgical operation and must be removed if pregnancy occurs during the process.

4. Contraceptive pills: They are divided into three types: high-efficiency, short-acting and contraceptive pills, as described below:

a. Long-term contraceptive pills: Due to the serious side effects, the actual effect of contraceptive measures is not very ideal, so they are rarely used at this stage.

b. Short-term contraceptive pills: The more common emergency contraceptive at this stage, it has good contraceptive effects and the least side effects among all contraceptive pills. Marvelon is a common short-acting emergency contraceptive.

c. Contraceptive pills: They are used as a rescue pill after unprotected sexual intercourse. They are the most harmful to the human body among all contraceptive pills. They can cause menstrual disorders and are not as effective as regular contraceptive pills.

In general, the contraceptive with the least side effects is short-term emergency contraception, such as Marvelon; if you are looking for long-term contraception, subcutaneous emergency contraception implants may be recommended.
