Epidural and water birth

There are different ways for pregnant women to give birth, and different methods have different disadvantages and advantages. To put it simply, childbirth means giving birth. Childbirth is a very difficult process for women, so every mother is excellent. So do you know that there are several different ways of childbirth? Which one is better, water birth or labor analgesia?

Which is better for water birth and labor analgesia?

Water birth, to put it simply, means giving birth in water. The definition is that a newborn baby is completely immersed in water when it is delivered. During this process, the baby's head must be completely submerged in water until the whole body is delivered in water, and then the baby is immediately taken out of the water. The principle of water birth is that pregnant women give birth naturally in a birthing pool filled with warm water. Because the temperature, microbial indexes, etc. in the birthing pool are similar to the amniotic fluid environment in the mother's uterus, the fetus can adapt well after leaving the mother, and the pregnant woman also reduces the pain of delivery under buoyancy. The newborn baby is provided with nutrients by the embryo and fetal umbilical cord in the amniotic fluid of the mother. At the moment of water birth, the environment in the birthing pool is similar to that of the amniotic fluid, and the alveoli of the newborn baby are still closed, so it is not easy to choke on water. Water birth has become the choice of a generation in Europe and the United States, but it is still relatively new in China. At present, there is no scientific research to prove which is better, water birth or labor analgesia. It is recommended that pregnant mothers choose according to their own conditions and the hospital's advice.

Water birth

Water birth is not suitable for everyone. Some pregnant women have made an appointment to give birth in water, but when they are about to give birth, their conditions may change and they may not be able to do it. This depends on the size and position of the fetus. It cannot be done if the fetus is very big, preferably between 6.5 and 7 pounds. The best fetal position is head position, and there are various head positions, face down, face outward, face up, preferably face down. It is not recommended to do it with face outward or upward because it is risky.

Generally speaking, if you want to have a water birth and all aspects of your body are normal, you should be hospitalized for examination one week in advance.

There are generally no risks with water birth, as it is a very natural way of giving birth, and various natural methods such as lying, sitting, squatting, etc. are advocated all over the world. If water birth is not successful, the delivery method can be changed immediately and the pregnant woman can give birth next to the delivery bed. If there are special circumstances, a caesarean section can be performed.

Water birth is a very interesting process. The whole body of the pregnant woman is immersed in water, and the water waves gently hit the body of the pregnant woman, which can strengthen the elasticity of the female uterine muscles and make the delivery of the pregnant woman smoother and easier. In most cases, the baby is born at the moment the mother leaves the water, but sometimes delivery does occur in water.

Although the baby moves in the amniotic fluid of the pregnant woman in the uterine cavity, it does not inhale and its lungs do not expand. After a water birth, the newborn baby is still in the water and his lungs are still not expanded, so he will not choke on water. However, if the newborn baby's head has been exposed to the air, and then the baby's head is put into the water, the baby will inevitably choke on the water. This is because the baby's lungs have expanded after being exposed to the air. The newborn babies flapped their hands and feet in the water like little octopuses, and then the midwives took the babies out of the water.
