Insufficient milk supply and constant milk overflow

Insufficient milk supply and constant milk overflow

Women need to start breastfeeding their babies immediately after giving birth. Women who are breastfeeding must have enough breast milk to feed their babies. Many new mothers do not have much breast milk, but they still experience milk regurgitation, which makes them very depressed. So what’s going on when there is not enough milk and the milk keeps leaking?

What are the reasons for milk overflow when there is little milk?

(1) May be related to deficiency of both Qi and blood

Spitting up milk is actually a normal phenomenon during breastfeeding, especially for mothers with sufficient breast milk. Even if they are not breastfeeding, breast milk will leak out. As for the reason why there is little milk but milk overflows, it may be because the mother's body is very weak after giving birth, and the qi and blood are deficient due to childbirth, so there is no kidney qi to consolidate the breast milk, which finally leads to breast milk leakage.

(2) It may be related to poor rest

According to the basic theory of traditional Chinese medicine, breast milk is actually transformed from the mother's blood. If the mother does not sleep well or rest well after giving birth, it will immediately affect the body's blood circulation system, which will also greatly affect the secretion of milk.

(3) It may be related to the baby’s sucking method

During the feeding process, if the baby's sucking method is incorrect, it will also affect the mother's milk secretion to a certain extent. Therefore, the mother's feeding method, the baby's sucking method, etc. may affect the final mother's milk secretion.

What should I do if my breast milk is leaking out?

The secretion of milk is affected by many factors. In order to ensure sufficient milk, the following should be done: increase the frequency of breast sucking and adopt a correct sucking posture. Reasonable and appropriate sucking is the most effective stimulation for milk secretion. The more frequent the sucking, the more beneficial it is to the secretion of milk. Generally, it is flexibly controlled according to the baby's needs of fullness and hunger, and the two breasts should be sucked alternately at the same time each time. Eat nutritious foods that are easy to digest and drink more chicken soup, fish head soup or big bone soup. The breastfeeding mother must ensure adequate sleep and rest, regular diet and living, a happy mood, an elegant environment, and fresh air.
