Fever 37.5 during lactation

Fever 37.5 during lactation

After childbirth, because the body is relatively weak, many breastfeeding mothers will have a rise in body temperature. Generally, most breastfeeding mothers with a high body temperature will go to the hospital for treatment in time. However, some breastfeeding mothers do not seek medical treatment because their body temperature is not too high and they feel it is normal. What is the reason for a fever of 37.5 during breastfeeding?

The normal axillary temperature of the human body is between 36 and 37.4 degrees. If the body temperature is 37.5 degrees, it is considered a fever, even during breastfeeding.

There are many reasons for fever, the most common of which is fever caused by respiratory infection due to cold; mastitis during lactation can also cause the body temperature to rise.

If the fever is caused by a common cold, you can breastfeed, but you must wear a mask to avoid close contact and transmit the virus to the baby.

If the fever is caused by mastitis, you should pay attention to draining the affected breast and keeping the mammary ducts unobstructed. Mild fever generally does not affect breastfeeding. If the body temperature does not exceed 38.5 degrees, it is best not to use antipyretics. If you must use antipyretics, use safer drugs, such as Motrin and Tylenol.

What to do if you have a low-grade fever during breastfeeding?

37 degrees to 38.5 degrees is considered a low fever. You can still breastfeed again if you have a fever. But if it exceeds 37.7°, you'd better not breastfeed for the time being. It is not a big problem if a breastfeeding mother has a low fever. If you rest more at home, make sure you get enough sleep. Drink more water. It is beneficial to restore energy.

What to do if you have a high fever during breastfeeding?

38.5 degrees - 40 degrees. It falls into the category of high fever. If the fever exceeds 38 degrees, please do not breastfeed. Pay attention to rest, eat more nutritious liquid food such as milk, rice porridge, noodles, etc., eat small meals frequently, and avoid eating eggs when having a fever. In addition, drink more warm water, at least 500 ml per day. When a fever occurs, breastfeeding can be stopped for 1-2 days. During the feeding period, breast milk should be pumped out frequently to ensure continued breastfeeding in the future.

A breastfeeding mother with a body temperature of 37.5 degrees is a fever. Physical cooling is recommended. If the body temperature exceeds 38.5 degrees, the breastfeeding mother needs to go to the hospital for treatment immediately to avoid affecting the feeding of the baby.
