TSH range for pregnant women

TSH range for pregnant women

In clinical medicine, more and more expectant mothers will check their thyroid hormone during pregnancy. Some pregnant women will find a situation when checking thyroid hormones such as thyroid stimulating hormone and free thyroxine, that is, there will be abnormalities in thyroid stimulating hormone. The standard value of thyroid stimulating hormone during pregnancy has a standard value.

Generally, the pregnancy process is divided into three stages. It is normal if the level of thyroid stimulating hormone is between 0.34 and 5.60 during the non-pregnancy period. However, because pregnancy is a special physiological environment, the thyroid stimulating hormone will undergo a series of changes during pregnancy. Therefore, the test results of some tests on pregnant women are different from those of normal people. According to the pregnancy manual of our country, it is normal to have a period of 0.05 to 5.17 in the early stage of pregnancy, and it is normal to have a period of 0.39 to 5.22 in the middle and late stages of pregnancy.

In the late pregnancy, it should be between 0.6 and 6.64, which is normal. If the test finds that the TSH level is lower than or higher than the standard value, it is definitely abnormal and should be taken seriously, because the TSH level in the first three months of pregnancy will affect the IQ level of the fetus.

If a pregnant woman's TSH level is found to be higher than the standard value, she may have hypothyroidism or subclinical hypothyroidism. Since TSH controls the production and metabolism of thyroid hormones, it will cause insufficient thyroid hormone metabolism. If it is slightly deficient, it will slightly affect the intelligence of the fetus. If it is severely deficient, the child will have intellectual disabilities, dementia, foot drop, hearing impairment, etc. after birth. This is something that every pregnant woman does not want to see.

Therefore, you need to pay attention to thyroid hormone during pregnancy and ensure that the level of TSH is less than 2.5uIU/ml. If necessary, you can take drugs such as Euthyrox under the guidance of a doctor to control the level of TSH. You need to pay attention to your diet and eat more foods rich in iodine such as kelp and seaweed. Of course, if a pregnant woman finds that the level of thyroid stimulating hormone is lower than the normal value, she may have hyperthyroidism. Another type is hyperthyroidism during pregnancy. In this case, she needs to eat a low-iodine diet, return for a follow-up visit after half a month, and take methimazole and other medications if necessary.
