What causes puffy eyes in women?

Many female friends have this feeling. When they wake up, they suddenly find their eyelids are swollen. That will not only affect the appearance, but also lead to a bad work attitude. What causes puffy eyes in women?

1. Regular edema during menstruation

Many women begin to experience edema in the second half of their menstrual cycle, which is more obvious in the eyelids. They experience swollen eyelids, a feeling of pressure, and tightness in the face. The fingers will feel swollen and difficult to move. Swollen feet may cause a feeling of tightness and discomfort when wearing shoes. In severe cases, there will be dents on the instep or even the ankle after lightly pressing with the fingers.

2. Pregnancy edema

After pregnancy, many women develop edema as the pregnancy progresses, especially in the lower limbs. They may also gain weight significantly, often accompanied by high blood pressure and oliguria, and protein may be detected in urine tests. This type of pregnancy edema is more common in the middle and late stages of pregnancy and is related to endocrine changes.

3. Hyperthermic edema

Many middle-aged women are prone to edema in the dorsum of the feet and ankles in summer. This is because in a high temperature environment, the blood vessels in the skin dilate, causing local capillary hematoma, increased permeability of the blood vessel walls, increased water content in the surrounding tissues, and thus edema. This type of edema has no impact on physical and mental health and does not require treatment.

4. What is neural edema?

It is common in obese women. There is no decreased heart system or heart function. It is just because the veins in the legs are surrounded by soft fat, which lacks mechanical pressure on the vein walls. After standing or sitting for a long time, due to the force, it is difficult for blood to flow back to the heart, causing interstitial fluid to stagnate in the subcutaneous tissue and cause edema.
