Is it normal to have brown discharge at 7 weeks pregnant?

The 7th week of pregnancy is still in the early stage of pregnancy. This period is still very unstable, so pregnant women should pay more attention to it. Do not do heavy physical work, go to bed early and get up early, and get enough rest. When you find brown secretions in your vagina, you must find the cause. This is not necessarily caused by miscarriage. Don't be too anxious. Sometimes implantation may also cause slight bleeding in the vagina.

It is normal to have brown discharge in early pregnancy. Many mothers have had similar experiences, but they were fine in the end. Today let’s talk about what causes brown discharge after pregnancy, what possible situations may exist, and what should we do?

Brown discharge after pregnancy is not necessarily a sign of miscarriage

Many expectant mothers have experienced brown discharge in the early stages of pregnancy. When they go to the hospital, the doctor may calmly tell them to go home and rest, or prescribe some medication to preserve the fetus. Brown discharge in early pregnancy does not necessarily mean miscarriage, it may also be caused by the following 5 reasons:

1. Implantation bleeding

It’s a fact that one in four pregnant women will experience light vaginal bleeding (also known as implantation bleeding) during the first week of pregnancy. Brown discharge at this time is generally considered normal.

However, if the amount of bleeding increases or turns red, you need to tell your doctor immediately.

2. Infection

If a woman has infection or inflammation such as cervical erosion, cervical polyps or vaginitis, it is also a common cause of brown discharge in early pregnancy.

If this type of expectant mother has sexual intercourse in the early stages of pregnancy, this kind of secretion will appear the next day; especially for expectant mothers with cervical polyps, it will cause a small amount of bleeding, and it will continue.

Once this happens, the expectant mother must first go to the obstetrics and gynecology department to check whether it is caused by cervical abnormalities.

3. Ectopic pregnancy

In addition to the above two reasons, you also need to be alert to ectopic pregnancy and go to the hospital for examination and exclusion in time.

If a woman has vaginal bleeding about 40 days after her menstruation ends, accompanied by heaviness, dull pain, and bloating in the lower abdomen, it is best to go to the hospital for a check-up. If the urine pregnancy test is positive and the B-ultrasound does not show the embryonic sac in the uterine cavity, but an abnormal mass is seen in the fallopian tube, the chance of ectopic pregnancy is very high.

In this case, you must go to the hospital for examination and treatment in time, otherwise the ectopic pregnancy will rupture and be very dangerous.

4. Threatened abortion

Brown discharge in early pregnancy may be a sign of threatened miscarriage.

The general symptom of threatened abortion is a small amount of vaginal bleeding, similar to this brown discharge, accompanied by unbearable abdominal pain.

At this time, you should go to the hospital in time. If the examination finds that the embryo is developing normally, the bleeding can be stopped through pregnancy preservation treatment, and the pregnancy can continue.

What kind of brown discharge requires immediate hospital visit?

If the brown discharge is not implantation bleeding, you need to get diagnosed right away.

If accompanied by fainting, fever, abdominal pain, cramps, and dizziness, seek medical attention immediately as they may indicate a serious condition.

Treatment of brown discharge depends on the cause and the duration of pregnancy. If brown discharge persists for a while, you notice a change in color or an increase in discharge, or you experience cramping and pain, seek medical help immediately.

What should I do if I have brown discharge during pregnancy?

1. Rest in bed: If the expectant mother finds brown secretions, try to rest in bed and do not do strenuous exercise. Generally, the symptoms can be relieved after two days of rest.

2. Seek medical treatment promptly: If brown discharge is accompanied by severe abdominal pain, you should go to the hospital promptly to see the cause. The doctor will treat the cause accordingly.

3. Do not blindly preserve the embryo if it is not good: If the secretion is caused by the embryo itself, the doctor will recommend treatment to preserve the embryo. At this time, the expectant mother must always understand the development of the embryo. Once it is found that the embryo has stopped developing, the pregnancy must be terminated and the medication must be stopped. Blindly preserving the embryo will not only hurt the body, but may also cause heavy bleeding.

There is no need for expectant mothers who have just become pregnant to be too nervous. Go to the hospital for tests and examinations at the slightest sign of trouble. A little brown discharge is normal. Just stay in bed and rest as much as possible. However, if the amount of bleeding is heavy or the blood is red, do not be blindly optimistic. Go to the hospital for a check-up in time.
