Will menstruation during lactation affect the quality of breast milk?

Under normal circumstances, as long as the mother gives birth to a baby, she will breastfeed the baby. After all, breast milk is the best food for the baby. Therefore, the mother needs to pay attention to many foods when breastfeeding the baby. There is a saying among the people that when the mother has her period during breastfeeding, it will affect the quality of breast milk. In fact, this statement is incorrect. The mother should have the correct attitude towards this matter.

Will menstruation during lactation affect the quality of breast milk?

There is a folk saying that after a woman's menstruation comes, her breast milk becomes less nutritious. In fact, this is not the case. As we all know, the quality of breast milk is best within 4 months after delivery. After menstruation, the quality of milk will not deteriorate, but sometimes it will be more concentrated, and the milk secretion of some mothers will decrease. The quality of protein and fat contained in milk also changes slightly, with the protein content being higher and the fat content being lower.

This milk sometimes causes indigestion symptoms in babies, but this is a temporary phenomenon and will return to normal after the menstrual period. These situations are mainly due to changes in prolactin levels in the body. However, since the secretion of milk is closely related to the baby's sucking and the mother's diet, appropriately increasing the baby's daily sucking time and frequency can achieve the effect of promoting milk secretion.

Therefore, there is no need to stop breastfeeding whether you are menstruating or after your period. When menstruation comes, the amount of milk a breastfeeding mother produces generally decreases.

Dietary taboos for breastfeeding women

During breastfeeding, mothers should avoid onions, garlic and other spicy foods. These foods are likely to affect the quality of breast milk and cause diarrhea or bloating in babies. As these foods are absorbed by your digestive system, the taste and acidity of your breast milk will change.

Women should avoid eating foods that only contain calories during breastfeeding: try not to replace a reasonable diet with greasy or sweet foods such as fried chips, candy and cakes. Because these foods are usually high in calories but lack nutrition, they can only provide short-term energy and have a great impact on the quality of milk. Moreover, fried foods are difficult to digest. Mothers who have just given birth have weak digestive abilities, so eating fried foods is not conducive to their recovery.
