Can I drink water in the morning when doing a glucose tolerance test?

Do I need to drink water before doing a glucose tolerance test during pregnancy? It is tested on an empty stomach. I believe there are many pregnant women who know what kind of test it is? When is the test done? The glucose tolerance test can detect gestational diabetes in pregnant women. Maternal hyperglycemia refers to a condition in which the blood sugar level is normal before pregnancy, but the blood sugar level becomes abnormal after pregnancy. If there is any abnormality, it can be treated in time to prevent accidents in the future.

Should I drink water before taking glucose tolerance test during pregnancy?

Our general rule is that you should fast for 12 hours before the glucose tolerance test, then do a blood sugar test, and then drink 75 grams of sugar. When drinking the sugar, we say it's best to flush it with 100-200 ml of water, and drink it within 5 minutes. Then measure the blood sugar level once an hour, and once every two hours with three standard values. If the result of the pregnant mother's sugar screening test is high risk, the doctor will require her to do a glucose tolerance test, also known as grape sugar screening, which is a way to diagnose whether the pregnant woman is a gestational diabetic.

The standard value of glucose tolerance for pregnant women (75 grams OGCT) has three indicator values: 1. Blood sugar. Standard value range: ≤5.1mmol/L; 2. 1-hour blood sugar value. Standard value range: ≤10.0Mmol/L3, 2-hour blood glucose value. Standard value range: ≤8.5mmol/L. Among them, the situations with abnormal risks are: if the value of any one of the above three items reaches or exceeds the critical point, it can be diagnosed as hyperglycemia in pregnant women. If the blood sugar level is higher only in the first hour and normal in the second hour, then diabetes cannot be considered, because blood sugar metabolism is still relatively good. The advice is to pay attention to diet control, avoid eating high-calorie foods, exercise more, and go for follow-up visits.

What should I do if my glucose tolerance is high during pregnancy?

Because high blood sugar during pregnancy itself means that the body is not able to consume sugar properly, it may be a manifestation of early diabetes! Diabetes is a chronic disease, and its harm to the human body is subtle. Pregnant women with high blood sugar will have symptoms such as dry skin, nausea, and poor spirits. This is mainly caused by genetic inheritance and unscientific diet during pregnancy; it is best to divide it into 3 large meals and 3 small meals; eat less high-sugar fruits; 400-500 grams of vegetables and fruits per day, of which colored vegetables and fruits should be no less than 50%, and legumes should be avoided.

The standard values are: 5.6 mmol/L when fasting, 10.3 mmol/L after 1 hour, and 8.6 mmol/L after 2 hours. If two or more of the test items meet or exceed the standard value, it can be diagnosed as gestational diabetes. If only one item is higher than the standard value, it can be diagnosed as impaired glucose tolerance. Abnormal glucose tolerance will affect pregnant women: 1. The incidence of premature abortion, gestational hypertension, polyhydramnios, surgical delivery (referring to cesarean section), birth trauma and postpartum hemorrhage is relatively high, and genitourinary system infections are common; 2. Impact on the fetus: The incidence of macrosomia, malformed fetus, premature babies and restricted fetal growth and development is significantly increased; 3. Impact on newborns: Newborns have decreased immunity and are prone to neonatal diabetes. It is necessary for pregnant women to do a glucose tolerance test.
