Will dieting delay your period?

Everyone should know that irregular menstruation is a disease that many women are very prone to. There are many reasons for this disease. It may be caused by some problems inside the female body, or it may be caused by some external factors. Dieting to lose weight is an external condition, so will dieting to lose weight lead to delayed menstruation?

Will dieting cause menstrual irregularities?

Irregular menstruation may be caused by neuroendocrine dysfunction, malnutrition, liver disease, diabetes, etc. In addition, bad habits can also lead to irregular menstruation, mainly in the following aspects:

1. Large fluctuations in emotions can cause irregular menstruation. Long-term emotional suppression, anger, or severe mental stimulation can all lead to irregular menstruation or amenorrhea.

2. Dieting can also cause irregular menstruation. If you diet too much, it will cause a large reduction in body fat and protein, leading to estrogen synthesis disorders and affecting menstruation, so it is recommended that you do not diet blindly!

3. Tobacco and alcohol cause menstrual disorders in women. Certain ingredients in alcohol and tobacco can interfere with women's menstruation and cause menstrual disorders, and the probability is particularly high;

4. Catching a cold can also cause menstrual disorders. If a woman catches a cold during her menstrual period, the blood vessels in the pelvic cavity will contract excessively, which can cause oligomenorrhea or even amenorrhea.

It can be seen from this that dieting to lose weight can cause menstrual irregularities. Generally speaking, a girl’s body fat must account for at least 17% of her body weight before she can have her first menstruation, and her body fat must reach at least 22% of her body weight to maintain a normal menstrual cycle. Excessive dieting will cause a large amount of fat and protein in the body to be consumed due to insufficient energy intake, resulting in estrogen synthesis disorders and obvious estrogen deficiency, affecting menstruation, and even causing scanty menstruation or amenorrhea. Do not diet blindly. This is also a common cause of irregular menstruation. Therefore, when women who are losing weight are taking diet measures, they must not reduce the intake of foods rich in protein, vitamins and various trace elements. Even fat should be maintained at 60 to 80 grams per day. Only in this way can the body maintain normal activities and keep menstruation normal.
