Where does menstrual blood come from?

After girls enter puberty, the female hormones in their bodies will continue to be secreted, and their sexual organs will gradually develop during this period. For example, breasts gradually grow larger and hair begins to grow in the pubic area. Menstruation is also a typical sign of physical development during adolescence. But for most little girls, they don’t know much about menstruation. So where does the menstrual blood come from?

As hormone levels change each month, the endometrium changes accordingly, shedding and proliferating, which is the onset of menstruation. So menstrual blood is discharged from the uterine cavity into the vagina.

The age of menarche for women is 13 to 14 years old. It is mainly affected by the levels of estrogen and progesterone in the body. When the levels of estrogen and progesterone increase, the endometrium will thicken. When the levels of estrogen and progesterone in the body decrease, the endometrium will fall off, forming menstruation.

Menstruation is a physiological cycle that occurs in some fertile female humans and in chimpanzees and other animals. Spiny rats, cows, mares, female camels, sows, and ewes also menstruate, and some mammals experience estrus cycles. In women of childbearing age and female primates, the endometrium undergoes cyclical changes every month or so, with autonomous thickening, blood vessel proliferation, glandular growth and secretion, and endometrial collapse and shedding accompanied by bleeding. This periodic vaginal discharge or uterine bleeding is called menstruation.

The main components of menstruation are blood (3/4 arterial blood, 1/4 venous blood), endometrial tissue fragments and various active enzymes and biological factors. Among them, fibrinolytic enzyme makes menstrual blood liquid and prevents it from coagulating, and prostaglandins play the role of contracting the uterus. Medically speaking, only the reproductive cycle experienced by primates (including humans) is called menstruation. In addition, the reproductive cycle of other mammals is called the estrus cycle. Menstruation is regulated by the reproductive hormone system and is necessary for biological reproduction.

The length of the menstrual cycle depends on the length of the ovarian cycle, which is generally 21-30 days, but varies from person to person and may be 23-45 days, or even 3 months or half a year as a cycle. As long as it is regular, it is generally considered normal menstruation. The bleeding time is generally 2-7 days, and the total amount of bleeding each time is 30-50ml. Some people believe that menstrual volume exceeding 80ml is a pathological condition.

You can eat some red dates and black sesame paste during menstruation. In summer, women must take warming measures during menstruation and avoid contact with cold water. Frequent bleeding in a short period of time during menstruation can easily lead to anemia. If you find that your face is yellow or you have a loss of appetite, it is best to go to the hospital for a routine blood test in time.
