How does interferon treat genital warts?

Genital warts are a sexually transmitted disease caused by human papillomavirus infection, so genital warts are highly contagious. After suffering from genital warts, patients will often feel itching or even pain in the genitals. At present, there are many methods for treating genital warts in clinical medicine, such as laser and cryotherapy. So what is the effect of using interferon to treat genital warts?

Interferon is a commonly used drug for the treatment of genital warts. Interferon is a broad-spectrum antiviral drug that does not directly kill viruses nor can it directly inhibit viruses. Interferon can usually only enhance the body's immune system and improve its antiviral ability by strengthening cell vitality. Therefore, the treatment of genital warts actually only plays an indirect role.

There are four major side effects of interferon therapy:

1. It can affect the patient's digestive function: Interferon can affect the digestive tract function of patients with genital warts, causing patients to experience nausea, vomiting, aversion to greasy food, loss of appetite, abdominal distension and abdominal pain, etc.

2. Can induce hematopoietic abnormalities: Long-term interferon treatment can also inhibit the bone marrow tissue of patients with genital warts, reduce the level of platelets and white blood cells in the blood, and induce hematopoietic abnormalities.

3. It may induce other symptoms: After intramuscular injection of interferon, fever, nausea, general fatigue, dizziness, headache and other fever-like symptoms may occur within 2-5 hours.

4. It can cause varying degrees of hair loss: Generally, after 3 months of interferon treatment, patients with genital warts will experience varying degrees of hair loss. More serious patients may experience mild rashes and other phenomena.

Therefore, interferon is not the best way to treat genital warts. With the advancement of modern medicine, there are still many other treatments for genital warts, mainly including topical medications and physical therapy. In addition, we must also learn to prevent genital warts in our daily lives. We must do a good job of personal hygiene, develop good living habits, and strictly demand ourselves.
