Dietary taboos for women with pyelonephritis

Dietary taboos for women with pyelonephritis

Pyelonephritis in women is a common inflammation, which requires patients to drink more water to promote urination and take antibiotics for treatment. When women suffer from pyelonephritis, they should pay attention to a light diet, limit salt and high-fat food intake, and pay attention to the amount of urine output. Pyelonephritis is mainly caused by edema, and patients should pay attention to dietary taboos after surgery.

Dietary considerations for pyelonephritis

1. Limit salt intake

The patient's edema and blood volume are closely related to sodium salt. Every gram of salt can bring in about 110 ml of water. If patients with nephritis consume too much salt and their urination function is impaired, the symptoms of edema will often be aggravated. Increased blood volume can cause heart failure, so salt intake must be restricted and a low-salt diet must be given. Daily salt intake should be controlled below 2-4 grams to prevent worsening of edema and increase in blood volume, which may lead to accidents.

2. Limit the amount of liquid intake

The diet for pyelonephritis should control the amount of fluid intake based on the patient's daily urine output. The general method of replenishment is to consume an amount of fluid equal to the amount of urine excreted the previous day, and then consume an additional 500 to 1000 ml of fluid. If the urine volume is low or accompanied by edema, the daily fluid intake should not exceed 1000 ml.

3. Avoid high-fat foods

Patients with chronic pyelonephritis have symptoms of hypertension and anemia, and animal fat is an unfavorable factor for hypertension and anemia because fat can cause arteriosclerosis and inhibit hematopoietic function. Therefore, patients with chronic pyelonephritis should not consume too much of this type of food. On the other hand, if patients with pyelonephritis cannot consume fat and protein in time, their bodies will become weaker. Therefore, vegetable oil can be used instead in daily life, about 60 grams per day.

4. Limit high potassium foods

When oliguria, anuria or elevated blood potassium occurs, potassium-rich vegetables and fruits should be limited, such as bean sprouts, leeks, green garlic, celery, cauliflower, toon, spinach, etc.

5. Provide adequate vitamins

Due to the restriction of foods rich in potassium, the intake of vegetables and fruits will be reduced, and the intake of vitamins will be significantly reduced, which can easily lead to vitamin deficiency. Various vitamin preparations should be supplemented, especially vitamin C, which should not be less than 300 mg per day.

Pyelonephritis is extremely harmful to the human body, so patients must pay more attention to diet, because good eating habits also play an important role in curing the disease.
