How to judge whether the uterus has recovered

The uterus is an important reproductive organ for women and is also the place where fertilized eggs develop. If the uterus is damaged, it will affect the woman's fertility and may also cause miscarriage. Therefore, if the uterus is damaged, surgery should be performed immediately for recovery. It usually takes two months for the uterus to recover. Women need to pay attention to their diet and vaginal hygiene. They also need to exercise more and do anal contraction exercises to restore the size of the uterus.

We often talk about postpartum recovery, and the most important point is the recovery of the uterus. So, what standards should be met after childbirth for the uterus to recover properly?

1. The size of the uterus returns to normal

The normal size of the uterus is 5.5-7.5 cm long and 4.5-5.5 cm wide, about the size of a duck pear, and weighs only about 50 grams. After delivery, the uterus does not immediately return to its original size. Although the fetus has been delivered, the uterus still weighs 1000 grams, about the size of a grapefruit.

It takes about 6-8 weeks for the uterus to return to its original size after delivery. If the uterus takes time to return to its pre-pregnancy size, it is an abnormal condition and you should go to the hospital for a check-up.

2. The uterus descends into the small pelvic cavity

After delivery, if you touch the area near the belly button with your hand, you can feel a relatively hard ball, which is the female uterus. The recovery of the uterus after delivery includes the descent of the uterus.

Under normal circumstances, during the postpartum uterine recovery process, the uterine body will descend 1-2 cm every day. After about 10-14 days, the uterine body will completely descend into the small pelvic cavity. At that time, the uterine body will no longer be felt in the abdomen. If this is the case, it means that the uterus has recovered well.

3. Endometrial recovery

During childbirth, the placenta separates from the uterine wall and is expelled from the mother's body. Afterwards, a new layer of endometrium will grow on the basal layer of the endometrium. However, the growth of the new endometrium on the surface where the placenta is attached is slower than other places. It takes about 10 days for other places in the uterus to be covered with the new endometrium, and it takes 6-8 weeks for the surface where the placenta is attached to heal completely.

Therefore, if the endometrium has completely covered the entire uterine wall, it means that the uterus has recovered well after delivery.

4. Lochia discharge

Discharging lochia is an important way for the uterus to recover after childbirth. By observing the color of the lochia and whether it is clean, we can also judge the recovery of the uterus.

Within 3 days to one week after delivery, the lochia is bright red in color and the amount is relatively large, which is called bloody lochia. Within 4-14 days after delivery, the lochia changes color to light red, which is called serous lochia. Thereafter, the color of the lochia becomes lighter and becomes white lochia, which lasts for about 2-3 weeks.

If the lochia discharge is regular and is completely discharged within 2-4 weeks, it means that the uterus has recovered well after delivery.

Postpartum recovery is an important part of a woman's pregnancy and is of great significance to her health. Therefore, you must pay attention to rest after delivery so that your body can recover to an optimal state.

In addition, a check-up 42 days after delivery can determine the recovery of the uterus and other parts of the body, so mothers must not forget to go to the hospital for a check-up 42 days after delivery.
