Woman's calf pain

Woman's calf pain

The calves are relatively important to people. If there are abnormalities in the calves, people’s walking ability will be affected to a certain extent. For example, many women have calf pain problems, in which case the patient's movements will be restricted to a certain extent. In order to remove this limitation, it is necessary to find out the cause and treat it in time. Below, we will introduce to you the common causes of calf pain and soreness in women.

1. Varicose veins of the lower extremities

Superficial varicose veins often occur on both lower limbs, but can also occur on one lower limb. In obese patients, varicose veins in the affected limbs are often hidden; in thinner patients, the superficial veins in the affected limbs can be seen to be dilated, tortuous, and bulging. In severe cases, they are twisted into lumps. The varicose veins are more obvious when standing, and the superficial varicose veins collapse when the affected limb is raised while lying flat. When the great saphenous vein is affected, the varicose veins are distributed on the inner side of the lower limb, or extend to the front and back of the affected limb. Because the great saphenous vein in the calf has a smaller diameter, thinner wall and is under greater pressure, varicose veins in the calf are more severe than in the leg. When the small saphenous vein is affected, varicose veins are distributed on the back of the lower leg and can extend to the lateral malleolus and dorsum of the foot.

2. Varicose veins in the lower limbs cause soreness and pain in the affected limbs

Due to varicose veins in the lower limbs, venous congestion and venous pressure further increase. As the disease worsens, patients often experience soreness or pain in the affected limb and become easily fatigued, which often occurs when standing for a long time. When you lie flat and raise your limbs, the soreness and swelling will disappear quickly.

3. Varicose veins in the lower limbs and swelling of the affected limbs

Simple primary varicose veins of the lower limbs generally do not cause swelling of the affected limb, but when accompanied by ankle-communicating branch valve insufficiency or deep venous valve insufficiency, varying degrees of swelling may occur in the ankle and calf. The worse the deep venous valve function, the more obvious the swelling of the affected limb. If the lymphatic vessels are affected and lymphedema occurs at the same time, the swelling of the affected limb will be more obvious.

4. Complications of varicose veins in the lower limbs

①Thrombophlebitis; ②Superficial venous hemorrhage; ③Stasis dermatitis; ④Secondary infection; ⑤Stasis ulcer.

In the above article, we introduced some common symptoms of calves. The most common condition in our calves is soreness, but as long as we pay attention to rest, we will recover. However, if there is swelling and pain in the calf, we must find out the reason.
