Is it okay to give birth with an epidural?

For many women, there are actually many fears about giving birth, and they are even worried that problems will arise during delivery. In fact, expectant mothers do not need to worry. Before delivery, the doctor will conduct an examination and recommend mothers to choose natural delivery or caesarean section. If there are problems, there is also the option of a delivery shot. So, many mothers have this question: Is it okay to get an epidural injection when giving birth?

What is commonly referred to as "painless childbirth" is medically called "labor analgesia", which is the use of various methods to reduce or even eliminate the pain during childbirth. Labor analgesia can prevent expectant mothers from experiencing the torture of pain, reduce the fear during childbirth and fatigue after childbirth, and allow them to rest during the first stage of labor, which is the longest stage. When the cervix is fully dilated, they have enough strength to complete the delivery due to the accumulated physical strength.

Current labor analgesia methods include two categories: non-drug analgesia and drug analgesia. Non-drug analgesia includes psychological comfort, breathing method, water birth, etc. Its advantage is that it has no effect on the labor process and fetus, but the analgesic effect is poor; drug analgesia includes nitrous oxide inhalation, intramuscular injection of analgesics, intrathecal labor analgesia, etc.

When administering labor analgesia and anesthesia to parturient women, the principle of not affecting the labor process and fetal safety must be considered. By strictly administering analgesics and not affecting the regular contraction of the uterus, the transmission of pain nerves during labor can be blocked, thereby achieving the purpose of avoiding or alleviating labor pain and minimizing labor pain, but retaining uterine contractions and mild pain.

For a healthy woman of childbearing age or reproductive age who has a full-term pregnancy and normal prenatal checkups, natural childbirth should be seen as a natural outcome, a natural outcome that is the most natural thing. It is a normal physiological process for human reproduction. A mother should believe that she and her fetus have the innate ability to accomplish this sacred mission. Cesarean section is only an alternative method of delivery as a last resort and is harmful to both mother and child.

Cesarean section is usually a remedial measure taken due to the patient's obstetric pathological conditions and is an artificial and unnatural way of delivery. For mothers, it increases the chances of intestinal adhesions, adnexitis, wound infection, and endometriosis; for newborns, due to the lack of compression of the vaginal wall and the lack of gradual adaptation to the external environment, the amniotic fluid is not completely eliminated, which is not good for the respiratory function of the newborn.
