The basis for this statement is: if the mother is pregnant with a girl, the increase in estrogen carried by the girl can promote the development of the mother's skin metabolism and make the skin better; if the mother is pregnant with a boy, the increase in androgen will lead to increased oil secretion and thickening of the stratum corneum, thus making the mother's skin worse.

This seemingly reasonable explanation is actually not scientifically based, and can be concluded from the following three reasons.

1. The right amount of estrogen is good for the skin

Studies have shown that as age increases or estrogen levels decrease, the collagen content in the skin decreases. The decrease in collagen content will cause the skin's elasticity to decrease, making the skin dull and loose.

An appropriate amount of estrogen is very important for maintaining the structure and function of the skin and subcutaneous tissue. It can promote the development of metabolism, thereby strengthening the skin and making it firmer.

2. Excessive estrogen can cause harm to the skin

If estrogen exceeds the standard value, it will stimulate the melanin in the skin. Pregnant women will easily develop spots on their skin and their skin color will gradually become darker. However, this phenomenon usually disappears on its own after the baby is born.

3. During pregnancy, the estrogen level of pregnant women will generally exceed the standard

Many pregnant women have excessive estrogen levels during pregnancy, and this result has nothing to do with whether they are carrying a boy or a girl. Studies have shown that when pregnant women are about to give birth, the estradiol level of pregnant women with bad girls is 23000ng/L, and that of pregnant women with boys is about 20000ng/L. During normal times, as the menstrual cycle changes, the estradiol content is 20ng/L-750ng/L.

If lower estrogen levels are better for pregnant women's skin, then in fact the levels will be lower for pregnant women carrying boys. From this perspective, the skin of mothers carrying boys should be better.

Therefore, many of these folk tales are incorrect. It may continue to spread along with the old sayings, but young parents need to be able to control themselves when facing these rumors. Also, don't guess the gender of the fetus just because you see changes in the pregnant woman.
