The harm of fasting for women

Bigu fasting has become a popular way of health preservation nowadays, but it is not completely beneficial for women to fast for their bodies. If fasting is done excessively, it may also cause some harm. The most critical one is that it may cause gastrointestinal and cardiovascular diseases. Because the fasting process requires fasting, the gastric mucosa will be greatly irritated, and stomach problems will occur over time.

For diabetes

For diabetic patients, diet is the preferred method to control blood sugar. If dieting and changing lifestyle habits can keep blood sugar at a reasonable level, then there is no need to resort to medication. This is one of the reasons why many Bigu advocates claim that Bigu can "cure" diabetes. However, not all diabetic patients are suitable for diet therapy. Some types of diabetes are prone to induce ketoacidosis under conditions of hunger. Therefore, for patients, the specific operations of dieting must have clear plans and arrangements, and take their own feelings into consideration. It is best to do it under the guidance of professionals, rather than blindly engaging in fasting in pursuit of a "cure" to avoid causing unnecessary trouble.

For cardiovascular disease

Since obesity is an independent risk factor for cardiovascular disease, dieting and weight control will undoubtedly keep people away from the threat of this number one health killer. Arteriosclerosis and atherosclerotic plaques are the direct causes of coronary heart disease (myocardial infarction) and cerebrovascular disease (cerebral infarction, cerebral hemorrhage). Dieting can help lower blood lipids, reverse fatty liver, and delay the onset of atherosclerosis. Therefore, some Bigu fasting enthusiasts believe that Bigu fasting can "unblock and soften blood vessels", and its significance is actually no more than the benefits brought by dieting and weight loss.

Myth

In the era before modern medicine entered China, yin and yang and qi and blood were the main ways Chinese people understood health; after modern medicine entered China, tradition did not lose its status. On the side of tradition, science seems mechanical and cold; on the side of science, tradition seems vague, rough and foggy. It is difficult for science to tell you what human "vital energy" and "meridians" are; similarly, tradition should not claim that it has already understood the ultimate mysteries of science.

The Bigu health-preserving method, which originated from Taoist teachings, has a long history. However, among some ardent advocates of traditional health-preserving methods represented by Bigu, scientific concepts are often intentionally or unintentionally distorted, and scientific ideas are often misinterpreted. People tend to exaggerate the magical effects of fasting to a certain extent. Some people even describe fasting as a panacea that can cure all diseases. It seems that after several cycles of fasting, most stubborn diseases can be cured. This is obviously inconsistent with objective facts. Both experience and reason tell us that there is no panacea for all diseases. When facing disease, the correct attitude is to believe in science and treat it rationally.
